View Full Version : Elements 4 very slow, why?

I know this topic has gotten much attention but I'd like to get some clarification in my particular case.

I've been a user of Elements v2 for years. It was a nice change from Photoshop v6. It is a snappy little program. So I thought an upgrade to Elements v4 would be great! How wrong I was. I installed v4 and then got the latest updates from Adobe. So here we go...

Here are my system specs:
Core Duo 1.8Ghz
1.5 gig RAM
128 meg video
80 gig HD

Here are my issues:

When I have more than one program open (which is all the time) and switch back to Elements I literally watch the screen repaint itself. The non-standard window decorations (title bar, scroll bar, command menu, etc) take seconds to repaint. Is there a way to turn off this "feature"?

When I have 6 or so photos loaded at once I have to wait at least three seconds to minimize ONE to the photo list at the bottom of the screen. Why? In Elements v2 I could minimize and restore photos in the blink of an eye.

Does anyone have a good explanation as to why Elements v4 sucks so badly when it comes to performance?

Oh yes, and I manually disabled the two extra windows services Elements v4 likes to have running in the background. (sigh)

Thanks for anyone willing to listen and help clear up these problems.

Hmmmm. Couple of thoughts.

1. Did you have anti-virus running when you installed? This can cause problems.

2. Is task manager showing anything?
