View Full Version : Christmas-zine!!

I am not sure where to put this question, but here it goes...! I am wanting to put together a sort of Christmas-zine for my family this year using text and a lot of pictures. What I can't determine is if I can do this in PSE5 or if I should do it in Word? I vision it as sort of having a sparse scrapbook look. I started out in PSE5, but found using the text boxes quite tedious as they are pretty tempermental and change or even vanish! Maybe I am doing something wrong with them. What I did was to put each photo on its own layer and then thought that I would put each section of text on its own layer. The text layers would vary in size and shape and placement. Any suggestions, thoughts, shortcuts, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I am guessing that the whole project will be 8-12 pages.

Thanks so much and by the way....this site is awesome! I am going to need a large hard drive just for all of the info and tips that I keep saving!!!

Hi Debbie ...

Try creating a Text Box ...

To do that just get the Text Tool then before you type any text drag it across the area (as you would use the rectangular marquee) and you will be able to define a box. When you trype the text will stay in there :)

Debbie, looks like you have your work cut out for you. Good luck! Wendy, thanks for the text tip, I will be able to use that in Christmas cards. I always typed what I wanted then moved it where I wanted it to be, but your way is a lot less time consuming.;)

Hi Charlotte ...

Glad that it helped ... it was one of the features that they brought in with PSE4 so anyone using PSE3 or PSE2 won't be able to do this ..

Wendy;

My wife and I have been putting together a collage to go with some text as a Christmas letter & have been wondering what the best way is for adding the text. Thanks for the tip on how to use the text box.

Wendy,
I just tried to type how you explained above and I can not seem to get that to work. I clicked the type tool, dragged a box on my layer and I am not able to type in it. Then I have to check the check mark and it only types in my layer pallette (name) Am I missing something? I am using E4
Thanks
Jancy

Again I spoke to soon. I had to reset my tool and now the type tip you suggested works! Thanks, that is so much quicker to do.
Thanks again Wendy

I read Wendy's instructions as "draw a box on your picture" in the workspace, not on your layer. I have PSE3 so I can't check it out.

Hi Marie,
I did try that according to Wendys directions (typed on the picture) but It was not working--it would only show up on the layer name pallette, not on the picture. I then clicked on reset tool and tried it again and it worked.
Thank you for your help

I have downloaded some of the pages that I have been working on for Christmas to my Gallery. This is so much fun! I can't believe that I didn't know about this creative outlet sooner. I do have to say, that there is definitely a learning curve though. It is great to have all of the help form this site. Now, I have figured out how to eat and drink my coffee and wine while working on this.....but not sleep......any ideas? Although I have been having some really strange dreams regarding photo placement on pages! Does this count as an addiction??? LOL

ps -Suggestions always welcome!

What a great idea. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And you've done such a great job scrapbooking your photos!
