Hi all,
The head of the IT Department where I work told me about an incompatibility issue between HP Director ans Internet Explorer 7. Once IE7 is installed, HP Director stops working. I verified this on my home HP all-in-one unit.
You can still scan manually and use other HP software but NOT HPDirector.
My IT buddy is looking for a work-around for this problem. Stay tuned!
Chas
P.S. Even though my default browser is not IE7, HP Director is affected!

Sue,
I didn't think I was alone in this sinking boat....:)
Hopefully I'll have good news tomorrow. Isin't it funny that neither MicroSoft nor HP has said a word about this?

Over at the adobe forums, some people are reporting that the IE 7 auto download affects PSE in a bad way (like the downloader or something), but not everyone.

The general concensus is - IE 7 is BAD!

Thanks so much for that info. I thought it was just something going on with my scanner software. That's an easy enough workaround until it get corrected. Thanks for keeping us posted.

My work around was to uninstall IE7; it returns you to IE6 version and HP Director then works fine. Does require a system restart.

Thank you so much for posting this thread and the info about this work around. My HP Director stopped working a while back and I had no idea that it involved IE7. Figures though. I VERY MUCH appreciated this info!!

Thanks, Ron

That is the ultimate work around!! I use Firefox, but my kids use IE. I installed IE7, but have never used it.

O.K. folks....Here's the work-around(just may be the same one from HP?)

Double click HP Director (nothing should happen)
Click Alt and space bar (a small dropdown box appears)
Click on minimize twice. HP Director is now in your task bar ready to use.
Now the unfun part.....you have to go through this every time you want to use HP Director. I've allready tried this work- around on my home computer...Hopefully, it'll work on yours too. Good luck.

Will,
I tried to uninstall IE7 and IE6 ddidn't come back. IE6 said that it could not reload because a newer version was installed. I got this message after uninstalling IE7. Bill Gates strikes again!

Hi Chas,
I noticed that I also have to use the work around everytime I opened the scanner software. Glad we were told about the workaround! I actually do not use my scanner daily so right now it is not that much of an inconvenience. I did not try to remove IE 7. I actually like it. I find the tabs are a nice feature. Hopefully no other surprise inconvenience's will arise with other software.

HP Director is software that is loaded when you have an HP Camera or Printer/Scanner so if you have other brands it won't be affected, [crossing fingers].

Hope this works....not the script,me getting it here.

var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
var dirfile="C:\\Program Files\\Hewlett-Packard\\Digital Imaging\\bin\\Hpqdirec.exe";
var oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);
WScript.Sleep(3000);
WshShell.SendKeys("%( )"); //equivalent of Alt+spacebar
WshShell.SendKeys("nn"); //equivalent of click minimize twice
oExec = WshShell.Exec(dirfile);

Hi, I am having the same problem with HP Director....
I unistalled it and reinstalled a couple of times....
I tried unistalling the IE 7 from Add/Remove Programs but its STILL THERE!.
then, HP tech walked me thru of cleaning up the registry and that DELETED my 4 other printers... I tried instaling HP Director and it gave me a ERR 2343...
HP Tech then sent me a link to download a patch err2343 from microsoft.. and now

my outlook is not working properly, I can not log into MSN, and Efax doesnt work.... and still HP doesnt work!!!!

It has been a total nightmare.... I still get the err2343 ....

any ideas??? How can I go back to IE 6?

thanks

cg,
Did you look at the microsoft site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234435 There is some info on that. It always seems when you try to fix one thing something else goes wrong--it never fails..It just seems to snowball! I think I'll use the workaround until it is (hopefully ) corrected. I may though give the script above a try if I am daring enough!
Thanks for the script

Hi Sue,
The script was copied and pasted into the My Documents folder and it seems to be working just fine.

Hi Sue,
Sorry you're having trouble with the script. Can you copy and send it to the desktop?
Then drag it to My Documents. Or copy it to a floppy disk(A Drive) then open and right click and send to My Documents. Hope this helps.
Chas
