I was taking pictures of my grandsons surfing yesterday when I noticed the sky's refection in the sand.

What a great photograph. I don't get to the ocean much, but I don't recall ever seeing this happen before. Good thing you had your camera handy.

Russ, all three are really FINE! But I think the first one you posted is my favorite. I have seen such a reflection on the beach often, but have never even THOUGHT to photograph it. You've got the eye!

Russ, I have to comment on your pics.I was born and grew up on the ocean side and looked at things and never saw them. It took you to make me realize that. So many things are taken for just routine and are really special.I have looked at, walked on, made my feed bleed on barnacles and NEVER saw them feed until I took my small children on a nature walk at Acadia Nat. Park and the ranger showed the "children" how they feed. There is so much to see if you only look. BillandCay:)

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Over my 64 years of life I've spent a lot of time at the beach and I've seen things that most people will never see. One day, after surfing, I was getting out of my wetsuit when I looked up and saw a baby whale playing in the surf. I've seen dolphins doing that quite often but, until this day, never a whale. I used to surf up by Point Conception a lot, one day I saw a male seal guarding a female seal. We didn't know what he was doing but we noticed that he didn't like it when we got too close--so we stayed away. After an hour or so the female delivered her baby and the three of them swam away. Now days I surf mostly in the area where San Diego County and Orange County come together. To get to the place I like to surf requires either a mile walk or a mile paddle. One day I decided to paddle the distance. After getting outside the shore break I noticed 4 dolphins [two babies and two adults] were swimming in the same direction I was going. The babies were about 20 feet in front of me and the adults were between me and their babies. The babies were playing, jumping and such. I noticed that if I was closer to the babies than 20 feet the adults would get right next to me. I took that as a warning not to get any closer, so I keep my distance. It was fun being out there with them in the ocean. After we got to the place I surf I stopped and they continued swimming north. I could go on and on but I won't. Russ
