advice on new computer

I am currently running elements 4 on a celeron processor. It runs like a dog and crashes. I am looking for suggestions as to what to but. Is Intel any better then amd. I think I need 2gig of memory. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'm running a Intel Pentium Process 2.3 with 1 Gig of memory and never have memory problems -- in one instance I had over 20 pictures scanned and in memory and that did slow the process down, but normally one won't have that many pictures open at one time. AMD is good but I don't know what CPU to recommend; I find it hard to understand the numbering system they employ.
