Here is a second attempt at using a displacement map. I used two photos from our trip to Scotland - 1 is from Calton Hill in Edinburgh and the other is Loch Lomond. I also added a more colorful sky. I think it turned out pretty well.

Hi Andie
That's cool stuff I like both of your displacements. Another good match for displacement mapping is the humane body and Maps... I hope the example below is not inappropriate... if so It will be gone with the first complaint.
But I did want to show how they go together... by the way, NOT a political statement just the first map I found on the net.

Andie,
you did a great job on that. Is there a tutorial on how to do the displacement map?
Butch... I am guessing you got a complaint, as I did not see your 'map' :(

Wendy,
Thank you. I will have a look at the tut.
As for Butch's image... it is there today! When I looked yesterday, his image was NOT in his message. That seems weird to me
Butch... I LOVE your image! (I had seen it before, but I still love it again!)

Hi Charles ...
Butch posted his image at Pixentral with a link in the thread ... if Pixentral is on a go slow then the image takes a while to load so it can look at if there is no image in the thread :)

Love all the displacement images.
Butch,
You couldn't have picked better maps. After all that area is the a**e h**e of the world.

Kev…sad but so it is just that. You would think one of the oldest and grandest civilizations would have learned tolerance of others, here and in the hereafter.
Nita…my my my what sexy ears you have!!!!

Butch,
I'll stay out of the subject of the objects in the image and ask technique question. I'm surprised the PSE could distory the map that much using a displacement. Did you have to do anything else to make it "fit?" I'm not trying to be funny, that just seems like an extreme displacement.

Hi Brice
All Elements.. but I did boost the contrast on the Grayscale File.
There were a few areas that required a little work, for instance some text was distorted too much and a few artifacts needed to be cloned out.

loved them all.
With maps like Butch's we'll probably see a whole new interest in the study of Geography. :o ;) I'm going to go learn about displacement maps.
