View Full Version : Very 0.T. IE 7 auto scroll

finally got around to upgrading yesterday...well, I sort of felt forced into it while doing my Win Updates, regardless, got a crazy ' auto scroll ' thing happening now when i use the wheel on my mouse to scroll up and down web pages...very very annoying. If I use the wheel and stop to read it will keep scrolling...like 20 lines at a time...robotically (is that a word) til it gets to the top or bottom of page. Looked high and low for a fix or a way to disable it but have not yet been successful. Just been using my keyboard arrows for now...anyone else upgrade to IE7 with the same annoyance and did you find a way to fix it ? I looked in my mouse options and there is nothing I can change to fix this. I'm a wheel surfer so not really feeling like changing to the scroll bar ( that's too much effort ;) ) I hated the 'clear type' upgrade as well so I bid farewell to that and got the old look of my familiar text back...everything else is all in order and fine except for this.
Thanks...if ya know anything please share your thoughts...that doesn't include telling me to switch to FF or Mozilla

This feature predates IE7, the way to stop the scrolling when it happens is to click on the page. I can't remember if it's a function of the mouse software and I believe it's activated by scrolling down a page fast. I hope this helps you.

Just curious if anyone has any trouble with Elements sites under IE7. I have so far avoided the change (had to download a program that blocked the automatic install). I'm thinking of upgrading, but still a little leery.
Of course, I am really waiting for Christmas when Santa will leave me the Elements 5/Premiere 3 bundle, a new PC running Windows Vista, a 60-inch plasma high-def TV to view the images and a 10-meg dSLR to capture the images in the first place.

that's news to me...anyways, clicking does not stop it...the only way I can get it to stop is to click down on the wheel which gives me that circle and 4 way arrows which i might add now does absolutely nothing else. I've been debating reinstalling my mouse tho just in case it is in fact a tiny war between the two.
Ward, other than setting up my homepage back to the way I like it I don't see any difference tho I'm still getting used to the new toolbar and icons and options which I really haven't bothered with yet and probably never will....all in one breath

Hi Jodi,
This is funny, just this afternoon I was trying to make up my mind if I should install IE7. It was downloaded automatically. So, I appreciate you starting this thread.
As far as the scrolling goes, when I click on the wheel, I get the arrows, then when moving the cursor up or down, the screen will scroll in the respective direction. It will stop when clicking anything (left, right, or wheel).
Hope you have been doing well!

Hi Juergen, I'm doing ok,,,how about you ? The South still treating you well ? Stay safe my friend...storms everywhere.
Ya, the way you described your mouse...it used to work that way here as well til I upgraded to IE7 and now my mouse is a putz. I have been doing some surfing on the subject and I'm not alone...lots of questions posted out there without answers.....gotta hate those kind. Anyways, why do today what i can put off t'il tomorrow...I'll do a reinstall of the mouse then.
Thanks again.

IE 7 for me works OK with scrolling with the wheel -- but CLICK the wheel and the 4 pointed object is just that -- no scrolling.

Yup Will, that's all I get here as well..that little 4 point wheel came in handy on really lazy days ;) ....glad you don't have the auto scroll problem tho...totally annoying. Never had this happen with IE6.

Just for the record -- I have IE7, but use FireFox 2.0 most all of the time -- except when I do my windows updates.

Jodi,
I was going to say the same as Will. I have ie7 and don't use it for anything but ms updates. Firefox 2 works well.

Another IE7 mystery -- I can't figure out how to "manage" my bookmarks.
And I've joined the crowd that uses Firefox most of the time.

Update, re-installing mouse worked ! yay...no more auto scroll ! Although...clicking down on wheel does nothing now...no 4-way pointer...no biggie, don't need it....probably user set up error
Juergen, everything still OK ? Saw the news this morning about what happened in Raleigh NC....terrible. Quite a destructive force of mother nature. Hope it didn't affect your area. Let me know....

Jodi, remember, I moved to Florida. Almost two years ago. I do appreciate your concern, though! :)

Juergen, geeze I'm not sure where my mind goes when it's not with me (staying out of trouble hopefully)....glad you are OK and all is well in the Sunshine State ! I really do need to get back down there while the humidity has lifted...that's about a 4 week span between December and January ...ok, maybe 6 ;) ...would be nice to get away
