I bought the Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. Got it a great price, so I could not pass it up. Great range and tremendous quality. It is silky smooth, focuses fast, and takes nice low-light shots. It is not a prime lens, but it is outstanding as a one lens walk-about. You need nothing else. Here is the first shot I took with it -- from this morning.

Did you pump the saturation or is that out of the camera? Was that shot NEF or JPG? Sorry, the geek in me needs to know.:D Can you post the EXIF? Since I shoot Canon, it's useful for me to understand the characteristics of Nikons.
BTW, thanks for leveling the horizon. Landscapes with tilted horizons drive me batty.

Marie, beautiful shot.
Where did you get THAT lens. It is backordered here and nearly impossible to get. Kimi and I are both waiting for ours.
I was told in the Ritz camera store yesterday that it is the "holy grail" of lenses for the past year. Kimi and I are waiting (impatiently):o
Thanks,
Kimh

Thanks everyone. My first time out with my new lens. Glad I timed it with the sun rise!

I did very little to it. But it was shot in Aperture priority at f/8 (always seems to take the best landscape shots for me). I had the VR feature on, of course, cause the light was not bright. I cannot remember what the shutter speed was; something like 640.

I was on the Roberts Camera email list. I had been on that list so long I had forgotten about it. They emailed me it was available (for $699) and I could not pass it up. I can pay it off over several months. And, you know what they go for on the used market? $800-900 minimum.
I may sell a couple of my other lenses because this one is so good! But, I still would not spend more than what I paid for it.

Hi, I was just on Circuit City's web site and saw this lens. Thought it was the same so came looking for the thread. They say it is available in stock for online purchase only. It sells for $899 Here (http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=144273&WT.mc_n=66&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=DEALTIME&cm_pla=DATAFEED->PRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=66) is the link if anyone is interested.

Oh my. I bought it for $699. I know you can get it for $669 even. I would never pay that much for this lens, even though I am very, very happy with it. If you want it bad enough, get on these three waiting lists:
San Jose Camera ($669)
Roberts Camera ($699)
Penn Camera (one of the above)
I got onto Roberts maiting list months ago and had forgotten about it until their email to me telling me that my name came up. I had seen these selling used for over $800 on a daily basis on some camera forums, so I knew if I did not like it I could re-sell it for what I paid in a heartbeat.

Marie, Can you say oops, I meant to add to my post that you got a great price. I just shared the link for anyone who didn't want to wait and was willing to pay that much.

I did not think I had posted my actual price and some folks think that $800-900 for this lens is a "good price." But, as you say, many are in fact paying this kind of money.

Kim, thanks for the heads up on the lens, that was nice of you. I am waaay over my budget so am (im)patiently waiting for the lens. I am on 2 lists-$799. and $750. Have seen it available for a hundred or two more but am holding out.
I borrowed a 50mm lens so I can use my new camera but have not had time yet.
The sunrise is awesome!
