I thought some of you may be intrested in seeing some of the flood waters that our area has been hit with in the last week.

You'll have to forgive the quality of the images. It was low light, no tripod, I was in a hurry, I had a point-and-shoot (read "poor zooming ability"), no boat, and some deficiency in ability. But it'll give you an idea:

This is a panorama (poorly done, but it works) of the Snohomish (WA) Valley. Where you see water is usually farm land with a road...

The same shot, with a roughly drawn red line showing where the road is...

This over-sharpened shot shows the level of the water compared to a road sign on a telephone pole.

A cute little shack that sells flowers in drier times--now floating...

For anyone interested, there are much better images online. These are just quick and dirty ones I took before work yesterday.

For the record, our family is fine. We don't live anywhere near a flood zone, but high up on a plateau over the valley. Lots of others have a long road ahead of them, though...

Geez Mike that's ugly. Glad you and your family aren't directly impacted and are safe.

We've got the same deal going on down here ... Portland is fine but houses have been lost along the nearby Sandy River and along the coast where you visited this summer.

Enjoyed the dry day yesterday ... but it sounds like a wild weekend. Hang on!

I swear parts of Sno county get hit every year, just like parts of Tillamook county do down here.

I'm glad we had the little bit of a break - the water was threatening the road near my house before it let up. But I expect it will probably over flow the road if the storm that is coming tonight is as big as I've heard it is supposed to be. Fortunately we are up on a ridge - which may eventually become an island... but at least we don't have to worry about the house washing away.

Photos like that give me the "willies". I never realized the damage that water can cause until we had a broken water line several years ago. A lousy water pipe in the kitchen took nearly 2 months to clean up. I can't even imagine trying to restore a house after a flood like that.

This is a classic image that was in the Seattle Times a few years ago, after a different flood. It is definitely one of those "Gee, I wish I took that!" photos! It's a great one. It was taken by Harley Soltes, of the Seattle Times.

Looked a bit like a fish out of water too me.:D

Not to make light of the floods Mike. Glad you and yours are ok.

Just tell me you are ON the plateau and not on the edge.

Mike
I was wondering if it was affecting you and wanted to ask last night before all that stuff started and forgot. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Glad you are safe.

Gary, yep, we are WAY back from any sort of edge. No danger whatsoever. Not even a storm drain on the cul-de-sac to unclog. :)

Nancy, thanks for your concern, especially considering your evening! We're fine, but there are lots of folks who certainly are not. It's raining again today, and dumping snow in the mountains, about an hour east--meaning when it warms up, watch out for Round 2...
