In lieu of a picture, due to the fact that the camera was in Dad's pocket at the time, this word picture will have to do:

The cost of signing up for the league and buying the uniform: $80

The cost of the fund-raising candy: $0 (we sold every bar  )

The cost of one, size 4 youth soccer ball: $0 (we found one in a bush in the back yard of the house we bought last March)

The parental cost of improvement: giving up 3 hours/week the past 2 months, enjoying practice in mostly nice weather

The parental cost of watching each game for the last several Saturdays: 2 hours, an interrupted Saturday every week, dealing with some nasty Seattle weather, and reminding myself that winning doesn't matter when you're 7-8

The joy of:

watching my daughter work hard all season...
witnessing her great attitude even though she was far from the best player on the team...
knowing she truly enjoyed herself, AND...
seeing the grin on her face after her hard work was rewarded by the scoring of her first-ever (and currently only) goal a couple weeks ago (she shoots, she scores!)......priceless :D

Sometimes, this Dad gig is all right!

It's always disappointing to be without a camera, but the memory of your daughter's grin will never fade:)

Mike,

I remember the thrill of scoring my first goal (and even the last one I scored... yikes, that's been a while). And, my dad was always my coach. You'll be glad you coached her.
