 They want to run a sewer line through this area !!!The council through its wisdom thinks that it will save them thousands of dollars.
Such a shame

Such a shame! In my mind there is always an alternative to find, saving dollars is not always the smart answer.
I'm seeing more and more of our beautiful natural spots taken over by "progress" too and it breaks my heart!

I thought that kind of stuff only occurred here in the US; sorry to hear that an environmentally responsible country like Canada would be under the same kinds of negative influences....

save them thousands of dollars at what cost?? It's sad really. At the rate we're going there won't be any green lands left!

At least I have some good news from Milwaukee. The Metro Sewer Commission (not at all known for being environmentally responsible in the past) is spending big dollars (7 figures over the past few years) to buy land along streams and rivers that drain thru this area towards Lake Michigan.
They have finally figured out that it is more cost effective to lock up these existing wetlands BEFORE the developers can get in there. If these areas can continue to act as an overflow sponge, they don't have to constantly spend money to expand treatment capacity to handle stormwater runoff.
Two new purchases were reported in our newspaper today. Not only does this preserve wetlands, the parcels were in between existing parkland so the animals will continue to have corridors for movement across the nature preserves.
It's so seldom that government does anything right, I read the news article twice looking to see if there was a hint of a hidden agenda in there. :D

George,
it happens here in the UK too, the beautiful countryside disappears and somebody adds to his bank balance.
In France they are even going to destroy War Cemeteries to put in a relief road!! Great thanks to those who died protecting their country.

It is so sad that so many folks are able to put a price on such beautiful natural places. Don't they realize that once they are gone, they are gone forever? And we will all be the poorer for it.

Bayhli....Your wright...there is alternatives its just that our coucil seems to have a mind set. but we are working on it. Election time is this Month !!!!!
Chuck....Its not only in the US but its a global situation now.
Pauline... You might have heard it on the news or in the papers .The property is "Scouts Valley" and its a "Big" issue in the up comeing elections.
Rusty...Glad to hear that someone in Milwaukee is listening.
Kev...Your right it all boils down to "The almighty Dollar". Too bad about France..."how soon they forget"...a lot of good men and women died for them including some of their own.
Skywriter.....Once its "gone" nothing can bring it back...all for the sake of the "Almighty Dollar"

George,
Politicians will be politicians and the only time they act responsibly is when they're up for reelection.
You should see what the Las Vegas Valley Water District wants to do to the state of Nevada. They want to drain the northeastern part of the state of its water. It would create an "Owens Valley" only in Nevada.
Owens Valley used to be lush and green until the water was diverted to southern California. Progress? I don't think so! Sorry, I get wound up at times...off the soapbox.

No George I'm not familiar with Scout's Valley. When we go walking in Orillia we just use the trails along the water front off hwy 12. I don't read the papers (too much bad news) and NEVER listen to anything Politicians have to say. Lots of promises going around right now of course because they want to get elected and once they do.......well that's the end of it.

 Charles....Your right ! Politicians will be Politicians ....just as long as they get re-elected then nothing else matters. This has to stop...and once people relize this then maybe something can be done.We do have a few people running in our election this month that do see the light. Just hope that they get elected and then we can move on. I just hope my grandchildren have something left for them rather than high rises and asphalt roads. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE "one vote at a time"

:) Pauline...."Scouts Valley " is just off of highway 12 & junction 11. as if you were going to Barrie....If you or your family get a chance to walk through the trails you will agree I'am sure that this is a beautiful place to just go and relax and take in nature at its best.

George are their any signs up? Is it by Old Barrie Road?
Hubby likes to find new hiking trails and I get a little tired of that long drive to Algonquin Park.

Thanks George. I've never gone down that road. I will keep it in mind for future hikes. Always nice to find new places closer to home!
