I am typing away on the this little slim white keyboard, in awe of this display, and just tickled pink with this new system! It arrived on day after my birthday. How sweet is that?!! My hubby is so good to me.
Oh, my mac is now affectionately called... mawme ... she is going to run this entire household - everything shy of cleaning and laundry!! LOL
So now I can get my bearings and hopefully get caught up on some projects! Oh, I tried to contact Adobe about a discount on PSE 4.0 as an "upgrade" from Win to Mac ;) but I didnt get a reply on the request. Anyone have a contact number or something?? I might have to hit ebay or something, I dont know.

Hey Beatrice,
Congrats on the new machine. Let's hope the next model can cook a clean.
Here's the phone number I used the last time I called Adobe to purchase, 1-800-833-6687.

Hi Beatrice ...
If you already have PSE4 then I'm pretty sure that Adobe will send you a Mac version for just the cost of the disk & postage.
Congratulation ... on getting Mawme (what a sweet name)

Congrats on your new Mac. I'm assuming that it is a Macbook or is it an i-mac?
Don't forget all the "free stuff" that come with these Macs - iphoto, itunes, i-dvd, i-movie, etc. etc. A lot of great stuff right out of the box.

Beatrice, Welcome to the "Mac Pack"
I switched in the summer and absolutely no regrets - even if Adobe don't bring out PSE5 for us:D
One of the recommended links I picked up on this forum was www.lynda.com. I learned loads on how to use all the lovely "out of the box" programmes.
Enjoy

Thanks all! I got the giant Mac Pro. What a monster this silver box is. I think it will fit in the cabinet, but I dont dare sufficate it there. Thanks for the link Linda. bnk... I have to copy over my photos and such to get rolling on all the other great programs. They look so cool!! I am amazed at the ease of this thing so far. And it is FAST - internet is a dream now!
p.s. I am on the phone with Adobe and I am getting the "replacement" software for Mac. Only cost $5.95 for shipping and requires my signature on a letter to agree to destroy (uninstall and break software CD) product which I will happily do for that price!.

Hi Beatrice ...
Oh that is really good ... so it won't be long before you are running Elements again :)
In the meantime ... if you get parallels or use bootcamp you can run your windows version on the Mac ::eek: (I prefer using parallels)

Hi Beatrice :)
Bootcamp is the Apple program that allows you to boot up in either the Mac operating system or the Windows one ... you can run one or the other but you have to shut down and then boot up again when you want to move from one to the other. Its free from Apple ... here is the link:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
Parallels lets you run both at the same time ... and you can switch from one to the other really easily ...
My husband has one piece of software that is Windows only so we use it for that ... but I have even tried PSE5 on it and it runs well :)
Here is the link ...
http://www.parallels.com/
and if you do decide that you want it then its worth buying this book for 10$ and getting $10 rebate on parellels :)

Congratulations !!! It seems I am back here just in time for the celebration :D
As for the virtualisation thing.. I prefer BootCamp because Windows can't see my Mac this way and I can avoid potential trouble with viruses and malware (it can't destroy what it can't see!) And it's much faster (tried both bootcamp and paralels). Paralels also had minor troubles at times. However, Mac can see Windows, when booted in Mac OS, so I can transfer my files back (there never was a need, but then, if it happens..)

Ray, can you believe I finally...FINALLY...got it!! Thanks for dropping in! It is going to take me awhile to feel confident to mess around with anything Windows on this machine. My hubby doesnt even want me to touch or attempt anything towards that side of it! LOL
Now I await on pins 'n needles to get PSE4 in the mail. This is the time of year when things start slowing down and getting clogged up. It was sent "Standard" USPS. Then the fun also continues with Bridge and iPhoto and more!!! I have even tried out Lightroom on the pc - pretty nice and easy to use.

I rarely do Windows on my Macbook anymore. I used to, but that was for a very specific task. Since then, only my friend uses it because the website he is required to visit only supports IE 6 for Windows (only for a few more weeks, they've announced Mac support as because it's been requested several times.. yay!)
So, unless you have a real need for it, you've simply have more interesting things do with the Mac OS :)
That said, I brought my Macbook with me at Los Angeles and it was pure fun. First, we burned photos right out of the camera (duplicating what was on the hard drive, you never know what could happen at 3000 miles away from home!). Also, with iWeb, I maintained a short blog and small webiste (http://web.mac.com/carbmac) and used iPhoto to download my pictures, to later be used in my blog. We also e-mailed some to friends and family.
We used Safari to get indications (thanks Google Maps!) and the weather, and some basic news (I didn't want to be too much disconnected). I don't think I would travel with my laptop anymore now :)
Ray
P.S. And once I came home, I had two calls for help... two new switchers need advice on what kind of Macintosh to buy and want private lessons on Mac OS, iLife and iWork.. Looks like I'm gonna have a buzy seasson :)

Ray - I recall your road trip with laptop. I would love to do the same some day. I took a peek at your site - really fun. Was hard to read (non-English LOL),but it was fun! I dream of making my own now. I KICK MYSELF ... I have invested hours and hours to a blogger.com blog. I dont think I will switch it all over to my own on .mac. It would be nice to finally have my own corner of the internet and call it mine. But the work to transfer all that... not worth it. Gotta start from scratch. I like adding the videos and flash shows (Photobucket has some really cool ones now). I assume I cannot do those things with iWeb...or can I?
Oh - what kind of storage to you get for your webpage? ahh...I am just going to sit down at the LEarning Center tonight and get all this straightenend out! I dont need to bombard you guys 'n gals with all this mac stuff now.

I have a .Mac account (with 2GB of storage). Then, from iWeb, I created my website in under 5 minutes -- no kidding! The blog functions automatically, I don't have a thing to do to maintain it. It really is simple with .Mac and iWeb.
Feel free to contact me if you need particular assistance. I'm always glad to help :)

Ray, can you tell me where you saw this? The Microsoft website for IE for Mac still says no further support: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/internetexplorer/internetexplorer.aspx?pid=internetexplorer
It was last updated in late October.

Yep, bad way of telling things.. The website, the company he works part time for, has announced support for Mac users, due to demand. That is great news !!

Thanks for straightening me out! :)
It's great when a company is so responsive to its employees' needs like that!
