I tried the wooden frame really quick, but i wasn't really happy with it. The online picture I posted rendered the brown a bit too dark and you cannot see the wood grains. I had a hard time getting the filter to leave enough space to allow the color to show through! anyway, here it is...

And on another note - I would've framed a picture of me in honor of my birthday today... but instead I made a collection of pictures that my SON took of me here - he did a great job!!!

Beatrice, Happy Birthday again. Your son did a great job on your photos. I too at first had problems with the frame and getting the grain right. Unfortunately right now I don't remember what I did to fix that. If I remember I will let you know.

I too, had problems with the tutorial. 50% grey was more purple than grey for me so I tried different colors, etc. but it still never looked like Matt's tutorial did. The lightest I can get the effect is a dark mohagany or walnut wood (which I like) but no maple or pine color... I guess I just have to keep playing with the fill colors, unless someone has an idea for me... hint, hint.

I used a hue/sat adjustment layer and grouped it with the frame. That gave me unlimited control.:)

I just had a thought - what if it has to do with the resolution of the image? I had created a higher resolution from the start and not 72ppi for the screen/web. Maybe that's the reason the filter would not space out... hmmm. The whole thing works in a pinch, but I'd prefer a more realistic frame since it is wood. Has Wendy tackled a tut on this one yet? ;)

I was able to create a decent wooden frame following the tutorial. I like to try to understand why each step is taken, and I don't understand why he hit the delete key after using the polygonal lasso tool, to create the cut-corner effect. Can anyone tell me why this works? I'm not sure what has been deleted. Thanks!

Tricia,

When you hit the delete key, it removes that part of those two sides so you have a mitred corner look.

Karen- Thanks ... I guess I'm still confused. I use the polygonal lasso tool to draw diagonally through those corners and around the entire bottom or top part of the frame. Why aren't those top and bottom pieces deleted as well?

Tricia,

The top and bottom are not deleted because they are a different layer, therefore not affect by the command.

Just rewatched the video tutorial - now I see it! PSE really is a visual program ... meaning one has to be able to visualize what is happening above and below what is showing on the screen with all of the layers. I didn't even think to pay attention to what layer Cory was on when he made that cut.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
