Ok, so here's my stab at getting rid of some power lines
Healing brush did do better than clone tool. Has a little more control over size and shape I guess. Thanks for all the hints that came from PoweredBySoy's topic.

Next quesion: Does it need different cropping? get the buffy outta the center? Is there a way for more "punch"?
Any ideas on a complete photoshop creation? (watercolor? sketch?)
Just thought of that, haven't played yet.
Is it worthy of sending to a contest? Does it just not work for anyone?
Be tough on me, I need it.

The only change I would make is making "him" the major part of the frame. He is the most unusual object so he deserves to be major I think.
btw - - Where and what is that?

Damn you, powerlines! *shakes fist at sky*
Seems like those things are everywhere.
But yeah, I like the picture a lot. Great color. I like how the buffalo is on the left side of the shot, facing the emptyness of the right.
The flowers, while nice, seem to add clutter though. Like they and the buffalo are fighting for the same spot in the picture. Perhaps try to make the buffalo more of the focus.
Just a newbies perspective.
P.S. Out of curiosity, did you use a polarizer?

Thanks for the suggestions!
"He" is one of a herd of about 8 or so steel/wire buffalo that they are trying to get vines to grow over. They are found on both sides of the road that leads to the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument ( www.archway.org ) A big historical monument for the expansion of the west and stuff. (That's where my hubby is the Mountain Man, in case you've seen any of those references. :) )
No, didn't use a polarizer, but do just have a simple UV filter for lens protection. 28-200 zoom. Yes, power lines from hell.
I took some buffalo-only shots but thought they were pretty boring. And a herd pix wasn't that interesting either.

Thought maybe I could do the "sneaking up on the big buffalo through the wildflowers" look by squatting low in the street. (wonder what the passers-by thought)
Maybe it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

Nice. Very rich colors regardless.

Haha. They probably thought, "hey, look. A crazy person taking pictures of powerlines"
It's a very good picture, IMO.

Kerri,
I have just had a look at your image ..
When you are deleting power lines on a cloudy sky try changing your sample point a little more often. If you are not careful the clouds tend to make a repeating pattern so I click above and do a little then click below to one side and do some more ... anything to break it up.
Give it a try and see what you think :)

How about blurring the foreground a bit ..sort of reverse blurring from the lessons :)
Gary.
