I just got PSE5 today and am anxious to download it and play. I currently have PSE4 on my Toshiba Tecra Laptop (with Centrino Duo) and I'm curious if there is anything I need to know before I start?
Do all the files (I've got tons of scrapbook elements not to mention gobs of photos) transfer to the new PSE5 Organizer okay?
I've spent months getting everything set up and would hate to have it mess up.
Thanks.

Hi Bonnie- I follow instructions that Trish posted, and it went really smoothly for me; here they are:
I found out that these are the steps recommended by Barbara Brundage in installing version 5 (with a couple of added steps for extra assurance):
1. Reconnect missing files in your current organizer. Then do a catalog>recover in your current organizer.
2. I then used cccleaner to clean out my computer to get everything ready for a clean install. (my own added step)
3. Disconnect from the internet and disable your AV product. If you have anything Norton, disable it!
4. Install version 5 then re-enable your AV product and hook back up to the internet.
------------------------
I followed these steps and had the smoothest install. It surprised me how little time it took. So far no problems. Remember: speed will be a problem at first, as it takes quite a while for version 5 to load all the thumbnails from your imported old catalog into the new organizer. It is difficult to play with the software while this heavy lifting is going on. __________________

In addition to Kay's great advice.
FYI... you don't have to unistall 4 if you don't want to. Both can stay on your hard drive, they just both can't be running at the same time.

Gary- oh, yeah, I always forget to say that! I was amazed at how smoothly the install went for me...

Thanks. I did a ScreenPrint of your message and will refer to that when installing.
I appreciate the help.

Once I know PSE5 is running smoothly, I'll uninstall PSE4. I've got enough on my computer without a program I don't need.
Thanks,
Bonnie

I went from 3 to 5, and except for my overzealous addin shuffling, mine went well too. :)

One thing to keep in mind (I think it applies here)
If you are using Adobe Gamma, I beleive, that if you unistall 4 (after) then you will also unistall the Adobe Gamma program.
