View Full Version : I think I've narrowed the problem down...

I actually made the 40 mile r/t to Staples to get a replacement copy of PSE5 - but it didn't solve the problems I was having. So I started digging even further.
It would appear that any tool that uses either default or pen pressure brushes doesn't work. If I can change the setting (either turning off pen pressure) or changing the brushes then I can get them to work. In fact I can get a few in each catogory to work, but only the odd shapped ones - and not all of them.
Any ideas on why those two brush sets aren't cooperating?

Yes - you think that might be the source of all my grief?

I don't know ... but those sort of things sound like they could be tablet related.
You haven't by any chance left the pen on the tablet have you ??

By geroge I think you've found the answer - it doesn't like my Wacom tablet. If I use my regular mouse everything is fine. If I use the Wacom mouse it starts acting up! Some will work with the Wacom and some won't.
So how do I get it to like my Wacom?

Hi Jane ...
Did you check to see if you had accidentally left the pen on the tablet ... sometimes that makes it do strange things ??

the Wacom Pen wasn't anywhere near the tablet - just the Wacom Mouse. (I keep them seperated - don't want them doing naughty things in the middle of the night :D )

Jane ...
Oh that is good one ... :D :D
I'm out of ideas now, as most people know I do have a tablet but have never really got on with it ... so I'm useless at trouble shooting. However it does sound as though the tablet is causing the problems ... hopefully one of the others will be able to help now :)

Jane maybe go to Wacom's site and see if there is an update for your tablet. I don't have any problems with mine and my daughter is using the tablet with pse just fine on their computer too.

Thanks for your help Wendy! I really appreciate it!!!!
Pauline - thanks for the suggestion, there is a driver update that came out in Sept. I think that was just after I got the Tablet.

I hope that fixes your problem for you Jane. I find the tablet to be extremely reliable and didn't have any problems with it at all when I updated to pse5, but I know my drivers were up to date.

Hi Jane,
As Wendy noted, leaving the pen on the tablet can have strange effects. I also have a Wacom tablet and I've found that I have to "disable" whichever mouse I'm not using. If I'm using the tablet, I turn the regular mouse over on its back (like a turtle). If I'm using the regular mouse, I have to make sure the tablet mouse isn't on the tablet.

That was my thought immediately - may need to update driver. I had similar problems when I installed 4.

YEAH!!!!
Updating the Wacom driver appears to have done the trick!!! Now I can sleep tonight instead of racking my poor (obviously inadequate) brain for solutions!
Many thanks you you both - and to everyone else that gave me advice.

Fantastic news and thanks.
I haven't hooked up my tablet since my recent upgrade but I did grab the latest driver a month or so ago... I'll have to make sure I install it.
Thanks again.:)

OK I think you solved the problem I haven't checked into yet. Since I installed PSE 5 if I get anywhere near my tablet with the pen it goes bonkers. I am waiting on the wacom site to load as we speak.
THANKS!!!!!

After reading this thread I thought I should check. I downloaded the new driver as my version is 4.82. Then I rebooted as suggested and now I keep getting a notice to reinstall. I went into PSE5 and tried my pen and it seems to work fine. Does anyone know what is going on?

This is similar to a problem I am having with a Wacom Tablet and Nikon Capture NX. I posted the issue below on DPR Retouching Forum an hour ago and have have not as yet received a reply.
__________________________________________________ _______________________________
I have the Wacom Graphire 4 running on a Windows XP PC.
I have discovered an unusual conflict when I use the Wacom mouse with NX.
When in NX and only when I have an image open the mouse tracks like the pen. This does not occur when NX is running and an image is not open. I have checked the setting for the mouse in the Wacom setup to make sure I did not have it setup to act like the pen. I have also downloaded and installed the latest driver and then rebooted.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. TJC

OK guys - this is annoying to me. I should have left well enought alone! Now after downloading the updated driver I keep getting a pop-up to Please reinstall the tablet softwarel. I have two discs. The pen tablet driver and the software bundle (which I do not use). What are they talking about. As I say I tried the Wacom pen in PSE5 and it seems to be working OK - but I keep getting this message!!!

Kinda weird.. they are likely referring to the driver cd.
I haven't done mine yet but I wonder if you were supposed to have the tablet unplugged during the driver load. I know i had a similar problem with my scanner for that reason.

Naughty Naughty Gary!!!
I didn't unhook my tablet before I downloaded and installed the driver.
Shari - is it maybe wanting you to install the driver, you just downloaded?

I wouldn't have said it if you were still having problems:)

Did you get the proper driver?? They have quite a few and I had to double check when I downloaded my new one. Just a thought.

Oh - I am having a terrible time. It is a day with the rain just pelting down and I thought I could get some good work done. Instead I have been having all these problems with the wacom tablet download. I wish I had left it alone. The box just keeps popping up that says Please reinstall the tablet software. I have tried to do that and it says - Another pen tablet is already installed - must remove. I go into install/remove hardware and cannot find the tablet. Then when I go into the control panel and hit the tablet it says the tablet driver not running. The thing is that my tablet is working when I try it on a photo in the editor. It is just that every few seconds I get this box saying please reinstall the tablet software. I was trying to find some support to write and ask but didn't see it. Maybe I am just too angry to concentrate - has anyone else had this problem. BTW my driver was 4.82 - so I probably should have just left it and not tried to download the new one from September.

Have you tried the "rollback driver" from the device status window?

That happened to me when I updated my driver. It turns out a bad update was posted on Wacom and when I contacted them and told them what was happening they told me to remove the new one and a fix was already going to post as they had just discovered the problem. They were kind enough to email the corrected driver even before it was posted on the web site and the problem was solved. Miine was doing the exact same thing as yours.

I don't know. I have the Intuos 3 and my current driver is 4.93-3. I had this problem sometime during the summer but don't remember for sure when. However, if it happened with mine it certainly could be the problem with others as well.

Hi Nancy. Thank you. I have written Wacom. I don't know whether to uninstall and reinstall what I have here or what. I just downloaded the driver this morning so it must be the newer one. I just used the pen in a selection in PSE 5 and had no problem, however, the notification box pops us every five seconds and drives me crazy. At least if I know you had the same problem - it is not just me going crazy again. Thanks.
