Hi,

I apologize if this comes through twice. I have been trying to post this for over an hour and it seemed "frozen" so I stopped it and am trying again.

Could someone walk me through correcting the overexposed portions of this photo? I have played with: Adjustment layers levels, brightness & contrast, etc. and also through the Enhance> Shadows & Highlights, and all the other things to try under Enhance.

I also tried duplicating and doing Multiply for layer style mode. I have also tried selecting an overblown portion and monkeying just with that, but it turned an ugly grayish color. I like how the brightness is in the rest of the picture, just not the portions of their faces that are overexposed. Any suggestions?

I would like to know, not only for this picture but for many similar situations. I know I am supposed to expose for the highlights but I often forget when I am actually taking pictures in a rush.

Thanks,

Jessica :?

Hi Jessica,

I downloaded your image and have had a look at it ... the over exposed areas really don't have any detail in them at all. They are totally blown out, they only thing I can suggest is that you try cloning over the areas.

Do it on a new layer ... that way you can reduce the opacity if it looks too artifcial :)

Thanks Wendy, I was afraid of this... especially after reading the other post about overexposed pictures. I will see what I can do per your suggestion. I guess I need to be a lot more careful taking pics, although it often doesn't look too bad through my viewfinder/ LCD on the camera, when I actually download them it does look bad.

Jessica,

It happens to us all ... :( it can be difficult to really see if an image is OK on an LCD screen.

It a nice photograph .. so worth trying out cloning a little.
