View Full Version : Artwork "frames" in PE5

Has anyone had this problem or am I doing something wrong because I didn't notice a problem before.

When I use the frames in the artwork section, put a picture in, and then transform it to put on an angle, the frame starts getting a littled jagged looking (the lines aren't straight). If I save the image and close and go back to organizer, the lines are straight. Then if I go back to edit again, the lines look jagged.

Hi Norma

I haven't delved that far into 5 yet but try changing the zoom and see if that helps. I have some weird display probs depending on the percent I am at.:)

Norma,
if you open your creation at print size, you may find the lines look OK.
It's something to do with the way Elements shows things on the monitor.

What do you "at print size". You mean a specified print size?

Norma,
a picture is worth a thousand words. Where the red ellipse is in this screen shot.

is it before you click "Commit" to the transformation? PSE is taking the vector shape and turning it into pixels (giving it a jagged appearance) - once you commit the transformation, though, it should get crisp again.

Kev, it does say "print size".

Graffi, it is after the "commit".

I'll try another easy one and see if it happens again and show you the image.

Norma,
if you do the commit and then rotate the image it will appear ragged, if you click on print size it shows you the image at the print size and the edges should appear smooth. This happened in 4 as well.

Here it is before I transform to tilt. And if I click on the zoom button (I was on move) it does say "print size" at the top.

And an example of the edgy frames (both inside and out).

I still see it saying "print size" so am I looking in the wrong place to see that????

Hi Norma ...

What size and resolution are your images ??

Norma,
you will always see Print Size on your tool bar if you have Fit To Screen selected. To see your image at Print size you have to click it.
I've just tried one and on the screen the edges were ragged, I ignored it and saved it as a jpeg just to test it, called it up in my viewer and no ragged edges.
If this doesn't help then I'm sorry but I can't suggest anything else.
Kev:) :) :)

Size maybe about 11x7 at 300 res. Then I fit to the frame.

Kev, if I do "fit to screen" it's jagged, if I change to print size it's fine. That was after I saved it as a jpeg file and came back into the image. I guess this is what it is supposed to do?

Norma,
as I said, it is a quirk between elements and monitors. Barry Beckham. one of the gurus here in the UK, always points this out in his tuts and videos when he rotates an image.

Meaning it'll be fine if I wanted to print or send to someone I hope. I can live with it; I just don't remember it happening before. But maybe I just wasn't paying attention at the time. I'll work around it. Hey, if that's the only problem I find with PE5, I'm happy as a goose!!:D

:D

you can check it, too, by just choosing (or creating) a different layer - as soon as the Shape layer isn't the active one, it'll "snap" into focus.

Hi Norma,

What's affecting your frame is merely your zoom percentage. Elements will only display correctly (usually) at zoom percentages of 25,50 or 100%. In your screen shot it shows you zoomed to 89.84% , you can see this at the bottom left of your screen. Try zooming in or out to one of the percentages above and see if it will then display correctly.

I hate to say this, but it's not snapping into focus. I've tried it without the image in it; I've tried it at different zooms; I've tried it at print size; I've tried it with the image in it and saving and going back into the document. But, funny, on another one it worked. So, I'm going to have to go back to that other picture and figure out what I did there that isn't working in these other documents. Go figure!!
