Have looked at books online, but don't want to buy a "pig in a poke". Any suggestions for the best tutorial book for PSE4? Thanks.

Hi ...
If its tutorials you are looking for then I don't think that you can do any better than the subscriber area on this site ... with over 140 Video tutorials and around 80 written ones its much more than you would get in a book :)
What sort of tutorials are you looking for ?

Since I'm such a new user (6 months) of PSE4, anything will help. I think the layers tutorial would be most benefiical for me. I've done some things with layers, but the more I want to do, the less I realize I know! :( Does the subscriber area mean you must be subscribed to the magazine?

Hi Walker ...
The Newsletter is all part of the package ... you get the newsletter, access to the subscriber area and a gallery so it really is worth it. The newsletter comes out 8 times a year and a new Video tutorial is added every weekly ....
As far as books ... I like any of the Scott Kelby ones. If you have a book store nearby then it really is worth trying to browse through a few books and see which one appeals to you :)

Hi. I'm new also. I did subscribe and I love it. It's well worth it. The book I bought was PSE4 One on one by Deke McClelland. Nice textbook with a DVD with 2 hours on it. It's good. I don't think it covered layers as in depth as I would have wanted. I'm planning on taking the layers course but I only have dial up available to me. I need the very BASICS. I did order a few more books last week. I like to have references at my finger tips. I have watched a few tutorials at my sisters and they are well worth subscribing to. I actually applied a tut to an image....my first! I was really excited. Hope this helps a little. Brenda

I agree with Wendy about having all the tutorials and videos available as a PSE Techniques subscriber. The Scott Kebly book, The Photoshop Elements 4 Book for Digitial Photographers is good at explaning the processess involved with PSE. If you have PSE 5, Scott's new version of the book will be available soon. I definitely keep this book on my desk.

I agree the tuts here are fantastic and well worth the subscription fee. As far as books go, if you are starting from scratch, never having used PSE before I would like to second Deke McClelland's book PSE One on One. It isn't he "bible" of all books, but will take you from 0 to 40 pretty darn fast. Then I'd add Scott Kelby's PSE for Digital Photographers and/or PSE Down and Dirty Tricks to squeeze out the last 20MPH.
I've found most other books are "specialty" tuts for some specific techniques, but these 3 give you the foundation you need to be strong user. I have several books, but these are the ones I refer to most often for PSE.
