View Full Version : Elements favorites

A funny thing. When I first joined this forum I set up a favorite for PSE3 and then started adding bookmarks. Anything I bookmarked from the Elements forum had a red icon box beside it. Then all of a sudden those boxes changed to internet icons. I have been used to them all being the same - then - out of the blue this morning - I have these red boxes beside all my elements forum additions. It is not a big deal - but does anyone know why or is it just another of those computer mysteries? Thanks.

I have them also. Looked very strange sitting there and made me wonder where they came from or what I did wrong this time.
This is my first post but I have been read the forum for a while and would like to say hello and thank all of you for all the help you have provided.

Hi all,
my .02 is this. I've noticed that when I'm logged into the PSE site, the icon symbol changes from an IE 'e' logo to a PSE 'e' box.
I believe it has to do with the cookies that are placed in explorer. It also occurs when I'm on the geocaching website and the Delorme forums. Possibly file association.

Same thing recently happened to me. Probably a couple of weeks ago.
I like it they stand out!
I also have a "different" little icon next to: adobe exchange (red square w/ white A (looking teepee), google has a blue G with a square around it,
myjanee has a female face, digital scrapbooking has a D with a swoosh under it, and Panos has a yellow sort of flower look.
I felt bad for scrappers guide not having one so...I changed it.

DRTPap and Cad7man, Welcome to the forum.
This is just a thought here but I see alot of changes today as well. Mine however are all associated to the fact that my AT&T Yahoo browser has upgraded and changes to the new Internet Explorer version. Has any of you also recently upgraded your EI? Like I said, just a thought.

They are called favicons (fav - icons, get it?) They are stored in the Temporary Internet Files and when you either clear those or when the file is full and begins eliminating old files by itself, they vanish and are replaced in the Favorites by the generic icon.
So far, this is the only site have encountered that regenerates them through use. Very nice.
I have read that if one does not want to lose any, they must be saved before they are eliminated from the Temporary Internet Files, but the process seemed to be too much bother, and I didn't save the instructions.
Maybe one of our more technically inclined people can give more info.
Hope this helps. Rita
