View Full Version : Wiil Curves plug-in work in PSE 5

I currently use PSE 3 with a free curves plug-in from Bob Johnson ( and which is wonderful ). According to Barbara Brundage's volume on PSE 5 the curves function is very limited. So, I'm thinking before buying 5 I'd like to ask if anyone has used the new curves offering and is it useful, frustrating or whatever. I'm trying to avoid going back and forth between the two editions. Brundage indicates that plugins for curves have been programmed out for 5.
Thanks
Joe

I have the trial, and have put the "Smartcurves" plug-in in, and it works fine. Also, Graffi has figured out how to activate the built-in Curves panel. It is not an adjustment layer (neither is the plug-in), but it works well, too.

have two questions. I thought 5 had curves in it. if so where is it? also I have downloaded grant's tools and can't find a curve action there either. Is it labeled something else other than curves?
thank you

Sue,
when you downloaded Grant's tools did you download the ones for PSE 5?
If you did and you have them in the right location, you should be able to see the curves icon. To find the curves in 5 go to - Enhance - Adjust Colour - Adjust Colour Curves.

Yes, I downloaded the ones for 5.0 and put them in the right location but still do not see the curves icon. I will download again just to be sure. His downloads are not labeled right but am getting the right ones. all that is in the folder are the guides, color channels and mask and transform.

Hi,
don't understand this. I downloaded Grant's tools for PSE5, installed them into Special Effects - Photo Effects and Action Curves is there.
I would suggest you double check that you have the right file for 5, the right location. If it still doesn't show contact Grant and he will help you.

hi ...
Just a quick update ... they actually were not in Grant's tools at all. Its just an experimental copy that a couple of us have been playing with  .
Hopefully Grant will add them at a later stage :)

Trish, Thanks for this info - smart curves works great in PSE5 and in addition, it's free - great combo! Thanks, Tom :D

Although Grant hasn't yet added them you can get the latest PSE5 version by clicking the zip file in this post:
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showpost.php?p=181276&postcount=2
Includes Curves and Channel Mixer that weren't in the original PSE5 version.

Just do a google with easy.filter and smartcurve on the line and you'll find several links with the filter available for download. I have it installed in PSE5 and it works great. The direct download link is at:
