I am working on a page for my daughter on her college graduation. I copied a photo from the internet that I wanted to use as a background. I opened a new image in elements. When I try to paste it on my image paste is greyed out. Is it possible to do this?

Hi Chris ...

When I save an image from the internet I normally right click on it and save it to my desktop ...

Hopefully one of the windows users will be able to help you with doing it via the clipboard :)

You can sure copy an image to the clipboard and paste it onto an image in PSE (Editor). My first guess was in the Editor, you were not set on the image layer, perhaps you were set on a text layer or an adjustment layer (levels, hue/sat). However I tried those and it still works to paste as it always creates a new layer.

The only way I could recreate graying out the paste was by being in the middle of an action, for example having a crop underway but not having checked the check to complete the crop action. So I would suggest opening the image fresh and trying paste before doing anything else.

Hi,
Still cannot paste into elements directly. Can use Wendys idea of copying to desktop but it wont let me do much in elements. For instance it will let me open it, But cant use it in my collage. It will let me remove the color and a few other things., But most is greyed out. Is there something I could do to this image to use it as background as its perfect?

Hi Chris ...

When you have it copied onto your desktop just see what file type it is saved as ... I suspect that it isn't a jpg. So open it and save it as a jpg.

Also make sure that the mode is RGB and not indexed mode. To do that look at Image>Mode.

Once you have made sure that it is RGB (and changed it if need be) and then resaved as a jpg it should work just fine :)

If it is any consolation, I have found the odd time that for some reason the same thing happens (copying not the other stuff). I am guessing it has somethng to do with the site it is copied from but I really don't know.
It is more of a bother than anything else because usually the save to desktop works and all is fine.
