There is a $20.00 (USD) rebate from Adobe for owners of previous versions of Nikon products. Rebate ends 10/31/06.
Found on Amazon.Com for $79.99(Reg. Price) - $20.00(Rebate) = $59.99 (Final Price)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/rebates/B000HLV59W/ref=dp_rebates_1/002-7718337-6144808?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=software
Considering an upgrade from PSE 4 to PSE 5.
Do you think this is a good deal or just a marketing ploy and the price will drop in a week or two to even a lower price?
Thanks in advance TJC

You may want to reread the rebate ... it's good until oct 31, 2007.
Also ... the rebate applies to many types of software, including Picassa which you can download free from Google.
There will always be specials--stores hoping to draw you in to buy other things.
I bought 5.0 at Best Buy at $69.99, then downloaded a copy of the rebate form from the internet ... my final price - $49.99 ... I'm sure you can find it cheaper if you wait ... but that's always the case with computer related items.
P.S. I like the way the tools are shown along the left edge of the work space.

While I'm not overly familiar with the online merchants and their "sale" strategies. Based on past Adobe pricing I don't think you will do much better.
If you are really looking for a bargain you may wait until that huge sale day in the US just after Thanksgiving and see what that brings. I just don't know if this type of thing is on sale then.:)

How did you get a rebate with a copy purchased from Best Buy? I bought mine from Best Buy on sale also, and the UPC code says right next to it that there is No Rebate.? Can you give the link for the rebate form you found?
Thanks,
Jodi

Just a quickie, Best Buy buyers.....Beware.....It is there policy to increase ther list price $10-$20 higher then the manufactors MSRP so as to appear to give a better deal. I recently bought a San Disk "SD" ULTRA - 1GB memory card from them. They jacked up the price $15 (over MSRP) then with instant rebates and mail in rebate you saved I think $30. I went on San Disk home site and saw the descripency and got really angry at Best Buy. Went back to Best Buy with the receipts and showed the manager what they did and he gave me $15 cash back no questions asked. I told him bad customer relations he just shrugged his shoulders and said he does not make company policy. So now I check out MSRP first to really see what break I'm getting. For me it's worth the hassel.

I found the rebate form at ... http://rebateplace.com/forms/9817.pdf
The price I paid at Best Buy was a one-week special. They have gone back to the full price, but I'm sure that if you watch you will find other sales.

Amazon's price today is $86.99. The price just went up $7.00 in one day??
Some times I swear they can tell when you are looking at something and raise the price. This is not the first time I have seen this happen. I have seen the price change even in the same day while going to another web page then I came back to Amazon and the price has increased on the item I was looking at.

Please note that on the rebate form, in the small print, there are several retail establishments not eligible for the $20 Adobe rebate.

Would you mind advising who these retailers are or what the documentation states.
I searched Adobe web page for 30min+ and could not find information pertaining to this rebate. That is exactly the information I was looking for.
I found PSE5 on Amazon.Com Merchants for $69.99 and the write up stated that it was eligible for the same rebate and technical support as if you purchased on Amazon.Com but I don't necessarily believe them and don't want to dish out $69.99 to find out this is not true. TJC

I copied this from the rebate form. It states purchases from Best Buy are not eligible for the rebate, so I'm not sure how Tony was able to get a rebate.
Mail-in Rebate Terms and Conditions

purchases made from September 12, 2006, through October 31, 2007. All rebate claims must be postmarked no later than six weeks from the

David you are right: not elegibleL Best buy, BestBuy.com, Bj's, Sam's Club, Costco, OfficeMax and Walmart. I always buy from costco, but their price was 79.99. Amazon was 89.99 with the $20 rebate that brings it down to 69.99. Haven't seen it any cheaper than that!
And yes, it is valid until 2007!!!
Now, if I just had not screwed up filling out the rebate, I would be ok.....A call to adobe will be necessary. I must need new glasses!!!!

Staples had it on sale last week for $79.99 and it was eligible for the $20 rebate for upgrading.
I doubt anyone has gotten a rebate check back from Adobe yet - they are really slow... and I'm bettting that those that are trying to get one after buying at Best Buy will end up being rejected.

Untill Saturday Nov.4 (06) Staples is selling PSE5 for 79.95 They Probably don't have it, no matter I grabbed a copy of their circular which I have renamed price match, exhibit A. I have 20.00 in best buy reward zone certificates laying in wait. I plan to get on my motorcycle (to save gas) drive to Delaware(to save sales tax) and make them sell me the program for 59.95 (plus, obviously the reward zone certificates) I will not talk to them for I can say with a fair amout of specificity and certainty that they are mostly annoying and unknowlegeable people. After I file the rebate my final cash outlay will have been 39.95 plus a gallon of high test. A good half days work. As an afterthought, last year Staples was offering PSE4 for 59.95 walk-out and adobe was offering their customary 20.00 upgrade rebate, unfortunately PSE4 impressed me not in the least. Who knows if they'll repeat this offer with PSE5.

I just read the PSE5 rebate form and it seems to have torn my plans asunder. Once upon a time Adobe put their upgrade rebate form right on the PSE boxes. It was a tiny little yellow tear off thingy and completely outside of the retailer's jurisdiction. Now you're telling me we're at the end of an era. Disappointing at the very least, now I'm really depressed.

A couple of years ago, CompUSA had a 21st birthday sale. A six hour Friday night sale was held. I purchased a Canon Scanner (8400F) $150.00 at retail $ 130.00 for this sale with a promised $30.00 MIR. I bought it. It came bundled with a copy of PSE2 which I registered. I called Adobe Customer Service and asked if the bundled, registered,OEM copy of PSE2 was eligible for the upgrade to PSE3 rebate. They left me completely dumbfounded when they told me it was!!! Soooo, I went back to CompUSA and Bought the PSE3 + Premier Elements package which was on sale the same week for $110.00, tore off the little yellow rebate form from the side of the box, followed the instructions, and low and behold in about 8 weeks Adobe sent me a check for $30.00!! This reduced my price for the PSE3 & PE1 package to $80. bucks. Now it's two years later and I still have warm & fuzzy feelings toward Adobe about that transaction. Now that would make anybody wax nostalgic for the good old days. Since no transaction of this type goes completely smoothly getting my 30 bucks back from of all people Canon Optical was like pulling teeth. It took almost thirteen weeks, two phone calls, and a shame on you rant. Adobe however, was golden!

I'm the one who bought Elements 5 at Best Buy ... I sent in the rebate form, but, of course, have not yet received the rebate ... or even heard from Adobe. On the form I entered my email address so that they could contact me about the rebate status.
It never occured to me that where I purchased the software might affect my elegibility.
I'll post any information that I get from Adobe.

I suspect the large chain stores probably stampeded Adobe into giving them a substantial reduction in the dealer cost. Net,net as it were. Adobe is probably reacting by not rebating products sold by them. Understandable, why pay the rebate without the cash flow to do so. In any event the box stores made off with our money, yet again. Best Buy is doing away with their MIRs prefering to offer "instant rebates". If everybody hopes real, real hard, maybe they'll run a sale with a good cash and carry price. I'd advise against holding your breath though!
