Hi,
This is my first post, so please bear with me.
I have an iMac with the latest version of OSX. I have Photoshop Elements 3.0 loaded, and have been using it for some time now.
I just noticed that PHOTOMERGE is not available to me. It's not that it's grayed out. It's not even there!
I've looked where it's supposed to be: File Browser Window - Automate - ???
Nothing!
Anybody have any ideas as to what's happening here? (And yes, I am in Standard Edit Mode.)

I don't know about version 3 because I started with V4, but in 4 it is under the File menu, when you go to New and arrow to the right, at the bottom is Photomerge. Maybe that will help you?

Hi and thanks for the speedy responses.
Yes, it's there under File - New (not where it's supposed to be, I might add). Unfortunately, it's grayed out!!!
I tried selecting the photos I want to merge, then going to it, but it's still grayed out.
Any suggestions?!

I tried doing a search for help, and everything I found points to Quick Fix versus Standard Edit
"The option is greyed out in
"quick fix". Switch to "standard edit" and it works fine in Windows"
That is all I could find. I know you already said you were in standard edit mode. Maybe you could double check it? That's all I could find.
HTH!

Hi Jodi,
Since I'm running OSX/iMac I just don't know what to think. It's just not there, along with quite a few other editing programs that are grayed out. I'm wondering if I should reinstall it.

Where your program has a button to click for Quick Fix or Standard Edit, what does yours say?

Standard Edit...

I think if it says Standard Edit, then you are in Quick Fix. The button shows you what it will take you to if you click on it, not what mode you are in. Try clicking on that, and see if Photomerge then activates.

I tried that already, but thanks for all your input! I honestly don't know what's wrong with it. I have a friend who used my disk to install it on her Mac and she has everything as it should be. So maybe when I installed something went wrong. I'm going to try reinstalling and see what happens!

Okay. Sorry I couldn't help. Let me know if you get it to work!
Thanks,

Reinstalling didn't help, so I'm at a total loss. I hate to think I paid all that money for this software only to find out it's not complete.
Thanks again, Jodi.

Photomerge is in the same location, whether in PSE 3 or 4. On a Mac, both the Quick Fix and Standard Edit buttons show side by side. When in Standard Edit, this button will look slightly depressed.
When in Quick Fix, Photomerge is greyed out; it's available in Standard Edit, with or without photos selected.
If you decide to reinstall, try repairing permissions (Applications>Utility folder>Disk utility) after you're done. That's not a fix for everything, but it could help. If none of this works, you may have a damaged preference file (plist). Take it 1 step at a time and let us know what happens.

Tricia,
Thanks for the info, but repair isn't available with the disk (only "verify").
I may end up having to call the tech support number next week (only open Monday thru Friday).
As I said earlier: my friend used my disk to load Elements onto her iMac and she hasn't had any trouble with it, so I'm not sure what the answer is.
I'll look into the damaged preference file.
Very frustrating...
Again, thank you!

I meant repair permissions on your hard drive, since that is where you installed PSE. That is always available.
Keep us posted.

I finally fixed it. I went into the folders for Elements and noticed some plug-ins that weren't "plugged in." After some experimentation, I finally got the plug-ins turned on and once I did that, Photomerge, Picture Package, Contact Sheet, etc all became available.
So, thanks to all for you suggestions and faith!

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I'm in a similar boat. I'm running 4.0.1 on the Mac. The photomerge option is grayed out. I'm in standard edit mode. Photomerge is grayed out whether I'm in SE or QuickFix mode. I tried! I'm anxious to stitch together a pano, so I'm wondering if anyone know how to unlock this feature! Thanks.

try merging them "manually"
I recently placed two photos side by side on the same canvas - sized them so the items in the photos were similarly sized and overlapped the photos until they matched up. Then I merged my two layers and cropped it.

I have a 5 or 6 shot panorama that I'd like to stitch. I'd try it by hand if there were only 2. The software's supposed to support this!
