View Full Version : Organizer Slow

I just installed PSE 5 today and find the organizing extruciatingly slow!!
I did a recall and recover before on pse 3 before installing 5. I have not added any extra pictures. It seems to take forever to do anything. I shut down my computer and rebooted to see if that would help but no change.
I sit there and look at a pile of hour glass icons.....if I want to scroll down.........there they all are again and I'm waiting and waiting.
I have 7600 thumbs in the organizer but had the same amount in v3 so I don't know why it should be so much slower!

Mine is slow as well Pauline. I haven't noticed it any faster than 3.0. Just much nicer features.

Just a thought. Have you opened Organizer and just walked away for an hour or so. It may be Organizer has to rebuild the thumbnails. I just installed Version 5 and mine is not remarkably slower; however, I tend to keep a small Organizer file so I may not have the volume you do.

I only have about 1000 pictures and I don't see any thumbnail building. It's very fast. Even faster now I defragmented my drive which had got messy after doing a number of updates recently. I wonder if your database hasn't completely rebuilt yet.

No never walked away Ward. Just opened it to look at the features. When it was lagging so much I shut down and rebooted. Still the same.
I just did another defrag, although it wasn't needed, and hopefully that will help speed things up. Have 1 GIG of ram on the way but that still doesn't explain why it would be so much slower than 3 when I have the same amount of photos!

Pauline,
You know I have a ton more photos than you in 5.0 & mine isn't slow. It did take a while to convert the catalog when I first switched from 4.0 but now it works as well or better than 4.0. Sorry I'm of no help--but just wanted you to know that maybe it's not the program itself.

I promise not to relive my "I hate the organizer rant" from PSE 4. Curious though if PSE5 has an alternate to the organizer, or if it can be disabled?
Thanks.

Well I'm happy to say that after running a disc scan, rebooting and opening elements it really picked up the pace. I didn't need to even do a disc scan but it seemed to make the difference. Either that or the program just needed to learn to play nice with everything else on here! I find whenever I install something new there is that horrible stage of ironing out the bugs.
I have not as yet got the e-mail program to work through Adobe. Keep getting an error message after I hit send , and I'm not feeling the best today so won't be wasting my time trying to figure that out.

Glad you're machine is running faster now! I was going to put my two cents in and say when I switched over to 5 it was way slower too. Then I did a refrag and a Spybot fix and then it picked up lots of speed. Now I haven't had any problems.

I exerienced the same thing, but I honestly think it just needs time to adjust before it begins to run smoothly. It was slooooow at first and then, as someone said, I walked away and when I came back, it was purring.

I am having this problem on a new laptop. I installed pse5 (already have it on my desktop) and on the laptop I open organizer and the hourglass turns... and turns... and turns... on a page of blank thumbnails! It is a Gateway notebook with a 1.6 GHz processor and 1 gig of RAM(my desktop only has 512 and it is Way faster than this!) I got this notebook for travel use to download photos as I go and do some prelim editing on the road. I know notebooks are slower than their desktop counterparts, but this is ridiculous. Any ideas?
