Does anyone know how to make a font show up for use in Photoshop Elements 4.0? I downloaded several free fonts, and unzipped the files, and they appear in a Fonts folder on my Desktop. But nowhere else. I am working from a PC with the latest version of Windows. I would like to get these fonts into Photoshop for use on Text layers.

Hello again...:)

Try this. Go to your control panel and click on the fonts folder. Click File, Install New Font. Find the folder that has your new font and click on the new font. Once the system recongnizes that a new font has been found it will put it in the box at the top. Click on the new font in that box and hit ok...

Unfortunately I've found that you have to install each new font separately but once you have you should be able to see it in Elements.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. Install. Why didn't I think of that? Glad you are out there and online today.

Not a problem... Everyone here has been so helpful to me that I'm thrilled when I can actually help someone else :)

Just a Tip:

If you don't want to install a new font to use it, just click twice on the font file to open it. Then restart Elements and it will show up in your font list.

If you use a font opened that way, when you save your image as .PSD and reopen it later, that font file must also be open in order to edit it. If you save your image in another format, such as .JPG the font just becomes part of the graphic file and it doesn't matter if the font file is open. Of course, then you can't edit it, either.
