View Full Version : Can PSE5 edit/browse multiple RAW images?

Hi
I'm currently a PSE3 user and I am very happy with the level of functionality, except for having to open RAW filles one by one to view and/or edit them.
Does PSE5 offer anything better than this? Or would an external RAW editor still be best?
Thanks for your info!

ACR in version 5 is just the same.
You can process multiple RAW images by selecting several in the Organiser and then opening the Editor. Then instead of clicking the Open button after you've made your adjustments, hold down the ALT key and notice that the Open button is now Update. Click this and the adjustments are saved and the next image appears.
This still leaves you with the process of converting them to another file format if you wish.
A better solution in my opinion is to consider using something like Photoshop Lightroom. There is a Beta free trial available for download. I've been using it for some while now and think its very good and I use it along side Elements
It will eventually mean another insertion of money into the process when its finally released but in my opinion and for what I do I think it will be worth it.

There are others available such as Bibble and Capture One

Colin,
I thought we had concluded a while ago that PSE3 and up could batch covert RAW images to another format (Jpeg). ACR 3.6 would be using its Auto settings.
Don't really know if that's what the OP is after, though...

Hi Juergen....
True, if you're happy with the auto settings or any other default you want to save but I assumed some individual tweaking was required.
Certainly with my images there isn't a 'one size fits all' setting.

Thanks for the help so far everyone,
Codebreaker... I was looking at the Lightroom, and it seems very good so far, and everyone who's been using it seems to love love love it!
Do you find it handles batch RAW conversions very well? Perhaps I'll download it today and give it a whirl!
Thank you again,

In a sense LR does batch processing.
What you can do is apply the adjustments from one image to a seletion of others, copy and paste the settings or Synchronise all the images to be the same.
It also works on JPEGS and PSDs in a non destructive way. Including crops.

Now that Lightroom has been out in beta for awhile and some of you mention you are trying it. What do you think of it? Will it run alongside Elements 5?

It depends what you're expectations are about running it along side Elements.
The two cannot be integrated together like the Organiser and Editor. Lightroom serves a different purpose. However, I am using it and Elements.
Lightroom is good at processing RAW images - much better than Photoshop. So I use this since I shoot only RAW. Having processed the images and assigned the Keywords I then export the images as PSD files from Lightroom and then have Elements Organiser pick them up in a watched folder. I can then Organise them how I want.
Keep in mind that Lightroom is not an Editor program like Photoshop.
