I have a round selection and I would like to make a black border around it. So I use Select->Modify->Border option and give 50 as a width. It selects 50 pixels border around the old selection. Then if i try to fill it with solid color it looks like there has been huge feather applied on the border selection. I cannot achieve real solid fill on the border selection. Isn't it a bug? Any idea on how to make a solid fill on border selection?
cheers

You could always try stroking the outline selection. That would give you a solid color border.

Thanks for the idea :) Right, it works with stroke but you'll end up with the same issue if you want to fill with gradient. Anyway, for me it's a bug, isn't it? If I wanted to have feathered selection I would use feather option.

Hi Marcin ..
It isn't a bug its just the way it works ... its like that in all the versions of Elements and in Photoshop as well.
Jane's solutin of stroking the selectiion is the one I would use too :)

PS ... To fill with a gradient. Stroke the selection and then select the stroke and use a gradient on it.

Thanks Wendy. That's a bit weird behavior to me but I can accept it if there is no chance to change it ;) To be honest I am new to Photoshop, I used to work mostly with PSP in the past.
The other way to achieve filled ring is to create select outer boundaries of the "ring" that I want to develop, then save the selection as, let's say, OuterSel. Next to make the selection smaller I press Ctrl-T (to enable Free Transform) and I put e.g. 70%:70% into scale fields. When the selection is scaled down I save it as InnerSel. When it's done i load OuterSel with New Selection option checked and then load InnerSel with "Subtract from selection" checked.
