When I load images into PSE 3 (Canon powershot G6)
organiser and look at the image properties, the colour profile is always sRGB IC6 1966-2.1.
Is this automatic or can it be changed in the camera set up?
Also I noticed that RAW is untagged.
Is the sRGB colour profile there because it's jpeg ?

Keith,
The colour profile is the one that your camera assigns and its the standard one that most cameras use.
To check if you can change it then you will need to look in your camera book ... mine gives the option of sRGB or Adobe RGB but Adobe RGB is not an option I would consider.
In my handbook the information comes under processing parameters.
Is there some reason why you want to change it?

Sorry I didn't answer part of your question ...
Raw files are made up of raw data so do not have a profile assigned to them.
(Sorry about all the edits ... I can't seem to spell today :) )

Hi Wendy
Thanks for your comments.
I am just investigating things just to find out what's what.
At the time I made this inquirery I was under the impression that sRGB colour space was a reduce colour range compared to Adobe RGB (1998).
It's still a bit of a gray area, but I am more informed now than I was.
Keith.

Hi Keith,
The whole question of profiles is fairly complex ... and one I have never really got to grips with.
In the early days I managed to get my images on screen to match the ones I put on the web and my printed ones ... so now I just leave everything as it is and hope nothing ever goes wrong :)

Wendy,
Why wouldn't you consider Adobe RGB? I just finished reading an article pro and con, but the Nikon folks set it as the default, so I'm curious as to your reasoning for not using it.

Karoli,
When I first got my camera I asked this question on another forum and I was told to stick with RBG ... but I can't remember why :(
I'm sure I kept a bookmark of the article but I just can't find it ... I'll search around and come back on this one :)

Wendy, was it because you had inquired about sending your images to online printing services ? Most labs use the sRGB colorspace.

Jodi,
That was it ... I remember now.
It was if I took the images in Adobe RGB then because its not possible to convert the profile using Elements then I could have problems if I wanted to send them to a printing service.
I supose that if you use the full version of Photoshop then it would be OK?
