Byron... Pretty Darn Cool! :D

Is it... NO SMOKING? I love the effect. What did you use for the jagged part?

Bryon, looks like a pro/con fight for a Smoking campaign. Really cool image. I hope I did mine right.

Thanks Kimi. just don't ask what I did because I forgot to write it down. I just kept playing with different brushes and modes.:D

Thats the whole point. To just play and see what the effect is. If you like it then it works. :D

Feel free to post more than one if you like. The purpose is to get more familiar with the blend modes. I think you did great. ;) :)

Kimi, I like the strange angel brushes. I downloaded them several weeks ago but forgot about them.

Nice image. Hope more people join in. Maybe we should add some Gold Text.:D

:D Now Kim... if we did that. They would want us to do it for them. And with all the drinking going on... who would ever get their work done.

Edit: Of course if you wanted to add gold text to yours, that would be perfectly fine.

Kim, those are really great. Didn't think of doing a Halloween one.

Kimi, I'll leave the gold text in the other thread. It seems to be peeking into to several others already.:D

Byron...What did you use for the jagged part?...Hi Kimi & Kim,

Instead of a solid color background, I started with a photo -- it is a close-up of a huge cactus-like plant of some sort.

http://www.pixentral.com/hosted/1hs6rgMvfuPFBfus7JLJ1gRqtLd9H1_thumb.jpg (http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1hs6rgMvfuPFBfus7JLJ1gRqtLd9H1)

I then used the Custom Shape tool to add the "No" symbols, gave each a separate color, and changed their blend modes until I liked them. I also added a layer with a smoke brush. I forget what modes I used and the exact layer order.... because I trashed the file after I made the flat copy - the digital equivalent of breaking the mold.

...that should increase the collector's value!!! :D

The fact that you both came up with the "no smoking" impression is pretty cool - even though the thought never crossed my mind as I was making it. I was thinking more along the lines of "don't touch the sharp parts of this plant or it will hurt like fire"...

Thanks for the invitation to play, Kimi. And thanks to both for the kind words.

Byron

Byron, I had to go back and look again to see the cactus. Still pretty cool.

Robyn, I agree, this is addictive. I just can't stop. :D

Would have never guessed the cactus. I don't think I have a smoke brush.

I love how people are starting to play. :D

My first one had flames that I did a light grey and looked like smoke.

Nancy, that is a great one for Halloween.

Kimi, that was a fun thing to do and I played some more to make a background for one of the wedding pics -- in my gallery.

Kimi what a great thread to start! I think blending modes are often overlooked and it's a great reminder to try them out for different effects.

The one I seem to use the most if OVERLAY filled with 50% grey and then paint on it with either black or white to shade and highlight. I prefer it to dodge and burn since it can be done on it's own layer.

Pauline... I don't think I have ever tried that. I am going to make a note and give it a try. Busy day for me today. 2 Closings. :D

I am glad more people have gotten in on this. There are some really neat things being posted. This is fun and I am learning more of what the blend modes do. I have to admit I always forget about them but won't anymore.

Kimi and Kay, great papers. Looks like I need to step it up to post with all of you guys. Mine look like a 3 year old did them.

Kay very nice. I like the leaves. I see a lot of people use the dissolve mode and I never saw much use for it. (time to take another look)

Kim I really like your final results. pretty cool.

Teacher... I am so very glad you came to play. I love your x's!!

Hi Janine. Very interesting...I have those flowers. They kind of smell bad.

Rusty... good job. What is under the covers?

I am so happy that everyone came to play. :D

Kimi, this was a great "project"... the ONLY thing I had ever done with blend was use multiply to try to enhance a blah sky. This opened my eyes to all the things I was missing.

Hey, Less Is More, and I would never try to use all of this in the same image as I stumbled along in this project. But, your obvious point was to experiment and learn: I sure did.

What is under the covers?
Saint Dominic (the patron of our parish). It was shrouded in white prior to formal dedication and blessing. I knew the white shroud would make selection easy so that's why I picked it for this.
