Your Mission If You Choose To Accept It....
Create a New Image. 800 in width and 600 in height
fill with a solid color. anything.
create a new layer and add a brush on it (make sure this is your active layer)
Highlight Normal and use your arrow keys to scroll thru your blend modes until you like something.
Create at least 4 layers following these directions (you can add more)
Remember you can also change your blend mode on your bottom layer.
If you want to take a walk on the wild side. Your bottom layer can be a picture.

Happy Halloween....
New document 12 x 12 at 72 dip
Filter - difference clounds.
Duplicate layer and ctrl+f to reapply filter
Hit Ctrl+F to reapply again and again until you are happy with pattern.
Colorize it to blue.
Add a new layer set to color dodge
I used a soft pink to white gradient
This only seems to give the deep 3-D effect with this color blue.
Next I used monster brushes from Adobe exchange and changed to multiply for Frankie and his bride.

Good idea Kimi -
I tried mine using photos to define patterns and then the pattern stamp tool for the brushwork. I don't care for it very much, but there are a couple areas where the eyes are interesting, and it's also kind of fun the way the peak of the temple and the peak of Mt Fuji follow the same lines.
That was a fun excercise.

I did two versions of this picture. They are both in my gallery. This is the alternative set up that my daughter suggested and on this one I also played around with blending modes. The middle back image was set to luminocity and the bottom front to lilnear light. There are 5 separate images making up this one with the starting image of a waterfall. I was behind the waterfall so you see the waterfall and then the greenery in front of it. A really fun collage to do.

Truly ... no real plan, just playing. Discovered lots of brushes and what a few of the blend modes did. Not sure this can even be called 'artistic'. I've never tried this before. Thanks for the opportunity.

Here's my go at blending backgrounds & brushes. I started with a photo of flowers. It's a bit different...but I kind of like it!
