View Full Version : Use Global Light

Where is the setting for turning off "user global light" in Elements 5? The help menu instructions seem to apply to version 4 not 5. In version 4 in a layer style you could double click the "f" that showed up in the layer style palette and easily uncheck "use global light". In Elements 5 I see an icon that looks like a flower which lets me adjust the layer syle (inner shadow) but there is no option to turn off "use global light". Where have I gone wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!:)

Sadly it is no longer available in V5. If you want to change your lighting you now have to rasterize the layer.

Thanks. Apparently the Help articles have not caught up with the versions. This summer I took the layers course for Elements 4 but also just upgraded to Elements 5 and was trying to apply what I learned. Thanks for your quick response.

Hi ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

There seem to be a few areas in the help section that have slipped in from PSE4 :(.

Wendy,

It's more than a few - quite a bit of it is just the PSE 4.0 help, with new sections added for the new stuff. Too much in a hurry.

In fact, I would say it IS the 4.0 help, with a few sections added for the new stuff in 5.0, but they weren't careful about removing stuff from the help that isn't there any more.

Wow you guys are right there with the assistance! I just went and cruised thru the advanced Elements forum and noticed that I am not the only one looking for this setting.

What are your day jobs? I just happen to have the day off and wanted to catch up with my hobby. Now that I know it is so easy to use the forum I will be back. I wasted a lot of time in the Help articles.

In addition to The "What's New" section of each new release they should include the What was Taken Away section.

Hi Trish ...

Ummm ... Looks like they didn't spend a great deal of time on help. I knew it was like that before but Ummm .. I thought they would tidy it up before they released it

I was wrong :(

I have been watching all the pro vs. cons on upgrading to PS5. I may wait a while longer and see if they revamp the help menu. So far I have upgraded on every renewed edition that came out and had minor problems. Back then, I didn't know about the Forum. The Forum has been a great help. So far as working, I work as a paralegal in a law firm in GA. I check with the Forum sometimes on my lunch to see if there is anything new and crafty. I have to admit, I'm addicted to the Forum. I never liked Forums or any kind of chat room, but this is totally different from all others.
