View Full Version : Your Corner of the World
October 22nd, 2006, 08:39 AM
Let's try this thread again - so folks can show where they live. It is so pretty in North Carolina right now as this is the best week for fall leaves. These fishermen just happened in the right place at the right time. Enjoy my corner of the world. Jean

Here is a collage of photos taken in Central Iowa. Unfortunately, the weather has not cooperated and the leaves did not get very bright this year.

Garry, that is beautiful. Was it done on 5.0. I just loaded it and have lots of investigating to do.
O.K. folks, keep it going. Jean
October 22nd, 2006, 11:08 AM
Jean--Yes this was done with 5.0. I just have the trial version and am waiting to purchase it. So far I just love it but I haven't gotten into the downloading of Plugin or Effects yet.

Jean, that is one beautiful shot!
Hope you put it in your Gallery....
October 22nd, 2006, 12:30 PM
Nice shot :) I like your semitransparent frame that you have made.
Simple and quite elegant.
I only managed to get one nice fall shot this year of a tree close too a farm near our home, before the wind blew all the leaves off all the trees.
I had to do some editing of the sky but the tree is still quite nice.

What pretty pictures you all have taken.
We had a day or two of pretty fall colors before a 2-day windstorm stripped the leaves that had changed color. But there's always something interesting to shoot.

Here are a couple from North Central Iowa. We've had a strange Fall. Many trees are completely bare and many more are still green, although dried up looking! These were taken at Dolliver State Park, about 13 miles from Fort Dodge.

Forgive these early works...lol.. but a couple views of the Ozarks after and during a midwest thunderstorm.

Below are two pictures I took this morning. The top picture is a place that I often surf, it's just south of San Clemente, California.
The lower picture is a close up of a section from the top picture--left of the train trestle.

This is the first of 3 days of snow in northern Michigan.
October 22nd, 2006, 05:20 PM
No Eva, you can't be posting those kinds of pictures yet!!!!!!!:(
Rain rain and more rain here. The beautiful fall colours have not lasted very long this year.
October 22nd, 2006, 06:29 PM
Great photos all. How about some spring photos from Australia.
Nolan - cannot take credit for the frame; it is one of Jodi's Missing Styles, a great CD. Jean

Here's a shot from the day before. The last showing of the birch and aspen, and the south shore of Lake Superior. That's the Bayfield peninnsula in the distance.

Okay here are a couple of images from Donnybrook
The bandstand in the main street (South Western Highway)
and the Post Office, also on South Western Highway.

I took this Saturday while sitting in a duck blind with my husband at the crack of dawn. It was cloudy and misty and miserable. We didn't see any ducks so the ones in the photo are decoys. We at Haymarsh State Park east of Big Rapids, MI about an hour and a 1/2 north of Grand Rapids. Not a great photo but better that the one I posted last week with the snow on the leaves. burrrrrrrrrrrr

Wow, all the Fall colors look beautiful! (not sure about that snow though! :D ). It almost, almost wishes I was back up North. As you can see from my picture, Fall doesn't really make much difference here in Florida. This was taken over the weekend (actually through my 5th floor window) of the pool where we were for the weekend in Orlando. Just wanted to make you guys feel bad:D :D
October 23rd, 2006, 01:19 PM
Norma, it worked, almost. My Dad just told me records highs down there lately. Even though I froze and got wet this weekend, still not ready to be hot yet.:D BTW, nice shot.
October 23rd, 2006, 01:38 PM
Don't feel bad - I was at a golf tournament at Disney and it was a record breaking 4 days of 90 degrees! Didn't make it much fun to be walking around a golf course all day. We were certainly sweating our tails off! But, to be the opposite of you - we're not quite ready to be freezing yet!:D :D :D :D

What Carol said about Central Iowa sounds just like SE Wisconsin - some trees are bare, a few still have color, almost all of mine are still green.
All of these were taken in my yard today except for the obvious one borrowed from a winter ago ;-)
I also emphasize, this is way in the SE corner of Wisconsin, as we saw from Eva's post, the Youpers already have snow!
October 23rd, 2006, 06:01 PM
Beautiful Fall colors! What are Youpers?
October 23rd, 2006, 07:18 PM
I should probably defer to Eva, but here goes anyway...
Michigan is called the peninsula state and that long skinny piece that sticks out to the northwest - along the south of Lake Superior and right above Northern Wisconsin - is called the Upper Peninsula. That, of course, is shortened to "the UP".
And, how do you say the letters "UP"? - only one way, "Youp". People around here will say, "I'm going skiing this weekend, up to the Youp." Naturally, we call people that live up there, "Youpers" :-)
And, because of where in Europe most of those immigrants came from 100+ years ago, still today they all say funny things like, "Dere, Hey, You Betcha"!
And, of course, they make fun of us to the south as well. We tell Belgian and Finnish jokes about them; they tell the exact same jokes about us - changed to German or Polish. :-)

Great pictures everyone.........Rusty, I love the presentation!:)
This was from about 3 weeks ago. The terrific colors are pretty much gone now, but it was beautiful while it lasted.

Here is some fall color from West Virginia. These were taken on Sunday 10/22. What a beautiful day we had checking out the fall color. And on Monday we are getting spits of snow.
This was put together in PSE5.
Here is another and this was my favorite spot for color. It was along the interstate on Rt. 19 at an overlook headed towards Summersville.
Love seeing everyones photos.
They are ALL great!!!
Great post idea!!! :D
October 24th, 2006, 07:15 AM
Rusty, thanks for the explanation! Now I understand!!

This gorgeous colored flower doesn't even bloom until October. It's vibrant color stands out among all the reds, golds and oranges of the leaves. It's called Monkshood.
October 24th, 2006, 01:22 PM
I just received this picture from my Dad. I'm originally from Connecticut and as you can see from the picture, they are still having some great foliage up there in New England. (actually the picture was showing his new car but I noticed the great foliage in the background).

I'm a Yooper and a Cheesehead. My husband works at the UW in Mad City and our second home is in Ironwood Michigan. The Ironwood house is a 10 minute walk to Hurley WI. LOL My parents-in-law vend at the Brookfield Farmers Market on most Saturday, their small orchard is near Waldo WI, south of Sheboygan. If ya can, check out the band Da Yoopers. Fun like Peter and Lou Berryman. Some where around this house is a copy of a book by a UW prof of Folklore. He has writen a book of "upper midwest" humor titled So Ole Said To Lena. It pokes fun at our local culture.:D
Rusty... Madison is between Mount Horeb and Stoughton. Uff Da!

October 25th, 2006, 07:54 PM
Wendy, love your images. They are so sharp and clear I feel like I'm there. And the country is so pretty! I have friends in Norfolk who are arriving here tomorrow for a month.
October 25th, 2006, 09:16 PM
Wendy - love your English countryside. When we visited I was amazed how much countryside there was left in England.
Doesnt anyone live near a beach??? Jean
