Hi,

I'm new to Photoshop Elements User and fairly new to using PSE3. I'm happy to have this site up and running again! I spent a lot of time last weekend searching on the Adobe Forum and tonight searching here but have been unable to find the answer to my problem.

A few weeks ago, I tried to upload about 400 photos at one time. For some reason, only half of them were uploaded. A few weeks later, I was able to upload the remaining photos, but now I can't see them in the Organizer. When I go to "get photos from file and choose the files I want to import, I get a message that says "the file already exists in the catalogue". I have looked at the "hidden" tag but there are no hidden thumbnails. Are the files in the catalogue but just not in the organizer?

I would appreciate any help with this!

Hi gapak, welcome to the forums :)

Sorry I missed this post yesterday...

Are the files in the catalogue but just not in the organizer?
First of all let's explain what the Catalog is... The Catalog is part of Organizer and is where Elements holds information about the pictures you have decided to manage in Organizer. The actual files are kept on your PC, most probably in My Pictures.

The Catalog holds details such as the file name, the location on your pc where the image is stored, tags or collections that you assign to the image, exif data, captions that you add etc..

OK, onto the problem... it sounds as though your Catalog may have been damaged by whatever happened when you first tried to load the 400 photos. You can repair the Catalog by going to File > Catalog > Recover.

Let me know how you get on...

If you are new to Elements, take a look around the site - there are some great resources here to help you get the most out of PSE3, such as video tutorials and the online training by Scott Kelby...

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the tip. I tried the repair but I'm still getting the same error - that the "the file already exists in the catlogue". Any other ways to solve this?

I've just ordered a new computer so my next problem will be transferring all of my photos.

I've been reading Scott's "The PSE3 Book for Digital Photographers" and have really enjoyed it. I just started exploring the website more and have started watching the videos - great site!

Thanks,
Gwyn

The Organizer will put the picture in the order of the date created (default, I think) and they may be deep in your listing if you are showing "By Newest" first.
If you know a file name or aprox date the pic was taken, use 'Find' and see if it finds the thumbnail in Organizer
or
If you know where the the files are on your hard drive, change the little pulldown box in the bottom left corner of Organizer and select show by 'Folder Location'
This is a little querk that I hope will be fixed in 4.0

Thank you! I had scrolled through the thumbnails before, but I guess I went too quickly! I have found them and set them to the correct date.

Thanks again!
