I'll try to put this in a way everyone can understand it.
I am running XP with myself and my partner running separate user accounts.
Having installed PSE3 and loaded a library of photographs everything works fine. However, when my partner logs in using her user account and accesses the photos strange things happen. The organiser displays the shots ok, but when you enlarge one it is out of focus and an icon similar to a sheet of paper curled at one edge appears, red in colour with a jagged tear through it appears. What is going on, can you help?

Hi Colin,
Sorry I didn't pick this up earlier...
The icon you described indicates a "missing link"... This usually happens when you delete, move, rename or edit a photo outside of PSE3.
The thumbnails you see in Organizer are stored in your Catalog... the Catalog stores a number of pieces of information about an image including the location that it is stored on your pc.
Are the photos in a folder that your partner doesn't access to?

Thanks for the reply Mike. In all honesty I dont know, I suppose this highlights my lack of knowledge of XP as well as PSE3. I wish I hadn't set up user accounts in the first place, but I dont know how to revert back to normal. What I cant understand is, if you install a programme on the machine surely everyone should be able to access it. I cant imagine you would have to install PSE3 on every user account........would you!

Colin,
I don't use separate accounts for XP so this isn't something I've had to address...
... but the broken link icon in Organizer means PSE3 can't find the actual file so maybe something it's the way your partners User Account is set up in XP.
I'll do some digging on Photoshop & User Accounts... in the meantime can you check that when your partner is logged in that she can access the folder where the pictures are stored - using Windows Explorer not PSE3.

If you would like to delete an account, go to
Start>Control Panel> User accounts
You need to have adminstrator priveledges to do this (which if you set it up you probably do) or you may be able to give your partner admin. priv. and see if that helps.
I'm sure there is an explanation as to why some programs load for everybody and some don't, but I'm not sure what it is. I just usually find the program on the hard drive, and make a desktop shortcut if it doesn't automatically make one for every user.
Hope this helps a bit
Gary.

It does help Gary, Thankyou very much. Although we both have Administrator accounts I think it best to delete these and start again.
Heres hoping.
