I just upgraded to PSE 5, and I'm unable to find some of the frame options that were available in PSE 4, such as "vignette" and "spatter" frames. Am I looking in the wrong place, or are these just not included in PSE 5?

It looks like they left them out, probably because they have some much better frames available now for vignetting and spattering. But if you still want them you could copy the .atn files from PSE4 and put them in PSE5 and they should work. If you want to try this and need help on where to put things let me know (they don't go in the same place in PSE5)

where are the better frames, in pse 5? I may copy the ones from pse 4, but i'm more interested in learning about the ones in pse 5. Thanks for your help!

They're in Artwork>Frames but they work very differently to the old frames, Basically you add a frame layer then drag the picture (or a layer with the picture on it) onto the frame. I'm still learning how it all works and I'm sure there's going to be lots of discussion and new ways of using them on this forum as people experiment.

Tony, another way I posted on a past thread....

Ifyou have an image in your layers palette that is not a background image but you wish to put a frame from the effects palette around it ..

drag a frame to your master document...drag it to an area on your canvas that is empty so that 'only' the empty frame appears...it will be on it's own layer. From the layers palette click on your image layer and drag it to that frame. The image will automatically be put into this frame and the image will now appear in layers palette with frame around it.

Jodi - thanks I think I'm slowly figuring them out. BTW the new frames and your Missing Styles do let you do some interesting things and they work quite nicely together. Here's one I got while playing around. Did cheat a bit and slipped into CS2 to see how those new frames work and resized the "cut-out" which I'm not sure is possible in PSE5 - or at least I haven't found how to do it yet. They are clever.

wow, that's super cool Tony ! Nope, you can't edit those in Elements but as you found out...CS2 will take care of that ;)

Again, super cool !

Tony,

You can resize the frame "cut-out" by doing a ctrl-click on the frame - I kind of found it by accident, then couldn't remember how I did it :)

Glenda: I thought I did it once but when I tried again all I could do in PSE5 was resize the whole frame and not just the hole in it where the picture sits.

Cool picture Tony! And I love the artwork. PE5 is so easy and I like it much better than PE4. It has some great new actions and I love the "curves" feature.

I'm not getting that here....not able to resize grey area only without affecting frame in Elements. Ctrl click ??

Maybe we're talking about two different things. Which frame are you trying to use? I found, when using the Soft Edge frame, that resizing only changed the size of the underlying picture and not the "cloud" where the picture shows through. But if I ctrl-click in the center of the frame, I can now resize the cloud to allow more of the picture to show through.

Glenda - you're right :) . And that explains why I thought I remembered doing it - that was one of the first frames I played with. Upon further investigation that one will work because the "frame" is tranparent so you can resize the "hole" without it appearing that the outside is resizing too. Hmm - I can start to think of all kinds of variations (and if you have access to CS2 some custom ones you could create). In no time at all I just dragged the soft edge frame onto the frame layer, resized the frame and got this variation on the theme.

Tony, I'm glad you were able to prove me right ... I was beginning to think I'd lost my mind! I really like that soft edge frame now that I can adjust the size. I don't know if you looked at my gallery, but I used it for several variations on a theme.

Thank you all for your responses. I think I'm figuring it out now, I just need to experiment a little more.

Thanks again!
