From an Amazon.com puchaser. Is this true?.

" A downgrade, with NO upside, October 4, 2006
Reviewer: Bobby R. Treat "DrMajorBob" (Pflugerville, TX United States) - See all my reviews

My previous review, saying this and more, apparently was censored or lost in the "bit bucket". I won't repeat all the details, but 5.0 is a more crippled and dumbed-down version of 4.0. It omits selection brushes, sharpening filters, and even the "Undo" and "Redo" icons on the shortcuts bar - even though Help still mentions them. The "Magic Extractor" is even more useless than before. They've added a color curve adjustment, but you can't actually touch or adjust the curve.

Keep 4.0, if you have it. Or go to Paintshop Pro XI. Either of those is better than APE 5."

I think all you have to do is read what people here have been saying about it to know that it isn't true. Seems everyone that has it loves it. A few options are missed but on the whole the upgrade is a good one.

But have these features been stripped from the app. And replaced with gee wiz items, like a scrapbook organizer.

I bought mine from Amazon and didn't think they were shipping yet . . .mine isnt due to be shipped for another few days (I bought the bundled set, though, so maybe that was slower?)

Yeah, the bundle is slower- I checked the timing for both, and I think it's a week or so different.

Jedimasterk, you can go back to the Amazon review also and see that bill from here has also made a review rebutting the other. The things the guy says is not in v5 are in it with the exception of the undo and redo, they have been removed but you can still do them, they just aren't on the tool bar.

Hi ..

As many of you know I was not a great fan of the upgrade from PSE3 to PSE4 as I felt there was little substance in it (apart from the Organiser) ... but PSE5 is a totally different ball game and I am very much in favour of it.

Quite a lot of new things have been added and there is plenty of new things in there to to experiment with. I honestly can't find anything that has changed for the worse ... I just like it all. Even the undo/redo buttons didn't bother me as I was never a great fan of them in the first place.. :)

Certainly my view is that the upgrade is worth it ... only complaint I have is that they haven't done a Mac version yet :(

Wendy, sorry they don't have a Mac version yet. But, I love the new PE5. And I'm not an expert like you guys. Especially like the "Convert to B/W" and the "Curves". I've never used curves before and I love it. I would highly recommend upgrading to PE5.
