In Elements 4 when I downloaded pictures from my camera card,
for instance:
2006-10-05-1404-36

It named the year-month-day-picture numbers.
I liked that.

Now in Elements 5, it only does the year month day and there is no dash between them and it does not number the pictures?
Do I have something set wrong?

Did you check in Preferences/General/Files. I know you can create subfolders with different dating preferences.

When you use the Photodownloader in PSE5 you should get a lot of different options and you can choose where to put the images and the format. Also make sure you check the Advanced Dialogue. It has a lot more options than earlier versions (you can choose the date in several different formats and whether it's the date the picture was taken or today's data). Much better than the previous version.

BTW If you have registered your copy of PSE5 do watch the 11 videos that you get access to on this site (when I registered I got an email telling me about them and a link). They are an excellent introduction and include one on Using the Photodownloader that tells you everything you need to know.

I watched the 11 tutorials, I did both the standard and the advanced options in the downloader. Perhaps I have not set one of the settings correctly. I only saw date settings that said how the date would be shown.
I will take some more pictures and try again. I really need for the picture number range to be on the folder name.

Sheila: It's changed a bit. In PSE4 the folders were numbered (if you left things the same) with date and time - so that number you quoted is the folder name you downloaded the pictures to and it gives the date and time you downloaded it:

2006-10-05-1404-36 is 5th Oct 2006 at 2.04 pm and 36 secs.

The images inside that folder would be the ones your camera gave them if you haven't used the rename option.

In PSE5 they left off the time (which is a good idea I think) and now give you the option of naming folders for the date you took the photo rather than the date you downloaded them (which is also a good idea).

Hope I got it right!

Thank you, now I see. How silly I feel. I did not realize that was a time. I should have looked deeper:o

I downloaded some pictures and instead of putting them all in one folder they put them in 3 folders? If I say I do not want subfolders then what happens?
All I want is one folder at a time each download, with the date they were taken on it. The pictures were all taken on the same date so they should have been in the same folder, but it split them up into 3 folders? Opps,,,,,,,, I see the 5 pictures it put in other folders were some that were left on the camera card from another time.
I am downloading some others now..Hope it get it right this time.

The book I ordered, The Missing Manual has not come yet.
