There are so many threads now on PE5 I can't find the one I'm looking for. One had mentioned how to put these into the new PE5. I can probably just drag and drop but I thought I had seen somewhere about putting them in folder called "Photo Effects"? And that they were hidden or was I missing something.

Wendy posted this earlier:

Hi ...

For installing things like Layer Styles it is worth doing a shortcut. To do that:

First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:

C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Layer Styles

Once you have done that then to install a Layer Style create a new folder (if there isn't one already), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... just restart Elements and the action then shows up in Special Effects Photo Effect.

Hi ...

I had a couple of typos in that so this is the latest version :) ...

---------------------------------------------

Installing Layer Styles PSE5.

To install a Layer Style just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .asl file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the layer style then shows up in Special Effects>Layer Styles

-----------------------------------------------------

Installing actions PSE5. First make sure that the "Show hidden folders and files" option is turned on in Windows. Then create a Shortcut on the desk top to:

C: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Adobe>Photoshop Elements>5.0>Photo Creations>Special Effects>Photo Effects

To install an action just create a new folder (if you need to), pop the .atn file (or files) in it and then drop the folder on the shortcut ... restart Elements and the action then shows up in Special Effects>Photo Effects.
-----------------------------------------------

If you have quite a few to install it really does seem worthwhile to create the shortcuts ... once you have done them they can just stay there for future use.

Everthing seems to have copied fine into PE5. Except I have another question. No thumbnails for Panos' filmstrips, puzzles; and Grant's tools don't have thumbnails. They all are there but just the text. Any way to get them in?

Hi Norma ...

PSE5 doesn't need the thumbnails anymore ... so its probably easier just not to use them (OK I know it doesn't look as pretty but it works just fine ) :)

Ok. Yeah, it doesn't look as pretty, especially since I have thumbnails for the others but that's okay. I'm not fussy! Thanks.

the only caveat is that some action steps have to be coded a bit differently for 5 - steps that worked in 4 and earlier will hang up in 5. The "Layer via Copy" step is one, and there are several others that will need tweaking.
