Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :).
I'm sorry but I don't know your level of experience using Photoshop so first of all lets go back to basics with a few questions:
Did the file have a .abr ending and did you put it into the Brushes folder that is actually with Photoshop CS or do you have a separate brushes folder created?
When you open up Photoshop CS and click on the brush tool where are you looking to find the new brush.? Are you using load brushes and navigating your way to the brushes folder?
Let me know and I'll see what I can do for you :)

Hi!
I'm also having a problem with importing downloaded brushes. I am able to download them and save them to the correct folder, and then go into PS and load them and use them. However, the next time I go to the drop-down list, they're not there and I have to reload them. I'm on PS Elements 3.0. I hope I'm making sense. Please help! :?

Julie,
How do you mean you have to reload them? ...

When I go back to the drop down list they aren't there. So I have to click on the "more" arrow, go down to "load brush" and browse to it again. They're listed among the different folders, and I also wondered if I could create another catagory folder to put all of the ones I've downloaded in. I hope this makes sense- Lots of times I explain things in a more confusing way then they actually are... :?
Thanks,
Julie

Julie,
I think that you may have saved them in the wrong place ... they should be in the Brushes folder if you want them to appear in the drop down menu. You can create a new folder for your brushes and save it elsewhere ... but then you will need to load them via the more arrow.
Hope that helps :)

hey thanx for replying so fast! i honestly didnt so many people would get back to me! turns out, i had saved all my brushes in the correct place... but they were a zip file so i had to extract them. to do this all you have to do is go into your documents or wherever you saved them. right click on extract and then it will make u wait a little and such but then it will pop up under a new icon and then when you go into photoshop and load the brush it will be right were you left it! and my brushes are way cool lol. thanx

Thanks for coming back to us ... and glad that you solved the problem.
Sorry, I didn't think to ask if you had unzipped the file ... you will tend to find that most downloads are zipped as it makes the file size smaller for downloading.
Take a look in the helpful links section of the forum and you will see links to all sorts of free downloads :)

oohhhh...alright. *sigh*
I would load them, but then i would look at the bottom of the drop-down list that I was already in, rather than realizing that they HAD ceated their own folders... But I was wondering, is there any way to make the samples in the drop-downs larger, so you can "SEE" what each brush looks like? Or is there a program that you can install that reads them for you? Like I have one called Free & Easy Front Viewer that lets me see all of my fonts (I've downloaded a lot) so I don't have to check each one...
Thanks for being so patient with my ignorance...

Hi Julie,
Thanks for letting us know what your problem was ... the only reason I asked was because if others have a similar problem it helps to know why I didn't think of the solution :)
Now to change the drop down menu:
Click on the brush tool
then click to bring up the drop down menu
Over on the far right hand side of the drop down box you will see a little triangle ... click on it and a fly out menu will appear
You can change the appearance of the drop down menu there
I prefer the stroke thumbnail option
Let me know if that sorts it out for you :)

Ha! I'm blind as a bat so I chose large thumbnail and it's exactly what I was looking for! :D
Thanks so much Wendy.

Hi Julie,
I struggled along with the other menu for months until I stumbled upon how to change it :)
