I need someone to walk me through the organizer.

I was able to catagorize all of my photos:
Barbara's Photos
Mom & Dad
Kids
Holidays etc etc.
I used catagories and subcatagories to sort and it worked just great.

Now want to add my husband's photos which I want separate and apart from mine.

Do I make his photos a new catagory with sub-catagories just like I did with mine, or do I do something with the collection tab so that they are separated. I will want to do a separate group of photos of "Our photos" as well. I guess what I'm saying is what in the world are collections and how are they different from catagories. I will have about 3000 photos when all is said and done, spanning back over 60 years so keeping them organized is important to me.

I'm sure this is a baby step thing, but am not sure how to set things up.
TIA
Barbara

Barbara,

You could do 2 catalogs - one for his and one for yours, but you cannot search both catalogs, and there is no merging, and Adobe doesn't recommend going this route.

I suspect you would want a similar structure for your husbands photos "Hubby's Photos" and then whatever categories under that like yours. I think using categories so you can get specific for each photo would be better than using Collections - which is general for a group of photos.

You could do something like:

Hubby's Pics (C)
...His Kids (SC)
.....Kid 1 (T)
.....Kid 2 (T)
...His Parents (SC)
.....Mom (T)
.....Dad (T)
...

(where C is a Category, SC is a subcategory, and T's are tags)

Etc, etc. Collections don't let you be specific about each photo. You could also, though, make a collection of just your pictures, and a collection of just his pictures, and then your "our" pictures collection, still having all those tags as well.

Sounds like you are off to a good organizational start.

I would also start Hubby's Pics with ZZZHubby's Pics as Category. So that it would be at bottom of category list instead of in the middle as the categories are in alphabetical order.

After that he would use sub-catogories and Tags
