The first 6 pictures in my gallery, starting with http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=13043
were taken last Saturday, in the White Mountains and Presidential Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine.
It was 28 degrees Farenheit in Errol, NH last Saturday morning. When I returned home to south Florida, it was 88 degrees.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Lance,
Every scene is beautiful, and I really like the vignette you made of the birch(?) trees!

Beautiful pictures. The running water is especially eye catching. Was it enhanced, or did the camera capture it that well?

Lance,
Beautiful pictures. The colors are amazing!
We, too, just returned from the area as we were in Halifax last week & returned to Oklahoma City where it was 93 degrees! The colors in Halifax were not near as pretty (or at least weren't where we were) as where you were. That is still on my list to do - a fall foliage tour in New England!!

Lance - I was just coming to post on your gallery. I absolutely love the colors you get back East. You have taken some wonderful shots. I couldn't really pick a favorite because they are all stunning. We did a New England Fall Foliage cruise several years ago but I think we were a bit early - we saw bits that were glorious but not enough. Problem is that now I have the digital - I think we will have to re-do our many many trips we did over the years!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Lance, those are gorgeous. My favourite is the one with the trees reflecting in the water.

Thanks, everyone, very much.
Byron - yes they are birch. Now I know the difference between white birch (aka paper birch) and grey birch. Grey has branches shaped like upside-down "v's".
Winsunn - I honestly didn't enhance the running water, not even a little. That location, much to my own amazement, actually exists just the way it looks.
The main thing that I did with all of these photos was remove the color casts and use Levels and Brightness/Contrast just to try to make the photos look like what my eyes saw.

What beautiful autunm pictures. You've inspired me to get out with my camera while the leaves are still vibrant on the trees.

Lance: You are an artist. You know how to take beautiful pictures. Reminds me of Ansel Adams. Simple but such good taste. Are you a professional photographer? Hope to see more of your work.
Thanks. Berengaria

Those are wonderful shots. I have been wanting to get to the mountains for two weeks to shoot the color changes in the Cascades. Hope I am not too late. The weather is beginning to change and is is sprinkling this morning. If we get some more sun I will just have to take off by myself to get some shots.

Great photos Lance!!!
So you went to Errol, huh????? That is certainly a hot bed of excitment isn't it!!!!!! Did you see the White Moose in LL Cote???? Cote's used to be just a small sporting goods store.....now look at it!! Did you head up Rt 26 into Maine and Grafton Notch??? Or down 26 toward Colebrook, NH and the Balsams??? I think I recognize the banks of the Androscoggin.....Isn't it stunningly beautiful????? I have never seen it at peak color......I am so envious!!!!

Berengaria - thank you very much indeed, but I am a very, very amateur photographer. I've been doing this for maybe 10 months now, loving every minute of it. It's great to be reborn via a new, passionate hobby.
Colleen - you are absolutely right about the Androscoggins. I had a guide for the day, Lucie Villeneueve (http://www.outdoorescapesnewhampshire.com/), who was superb. Lucie did the driving, so I don't know about the Road names, but I can tell you that we stopped in to visit Sonja and Charley (http://www.apeaceofheavenbandb.com/AreaInformation.htm) at their B&B in Errol.
I didn't see a white moose, a blue moose or any moose. Lucie was at her wits' end trying to show me a moose. We did see a large but young bird teaching itself to fly above the Androscoggin. Lucie thought it was a bald eagle or a turkey vulture or an osprey. We didn't get close enough to see it, and the pictures were too blurry.
I think we went to Grafton Notch, but I honestly couldn't keep up with the routes. My eyes and my brain were just about exploding with all the beautiful scenes around me.

Lance:
If you went to Grafton Notch, you went right by our camp (we are right off 26). I am sure you went to Screw Auger Falls in Grafton Notch State Park.....just a lovely spot. I will have to post a pic or two of summer along the Androscoggin. Beautiful, but not nearly as spectacular as your fall photos are. Great area isn't it....so quiet, so peacful.....except when they find a body down the street from your camp  !

Here is a photo I took as we were driving along the Androscoggin in 2004. I took it with my little Olympus 3megapixel point and shoot, while my husband is driving. This was taken in mid August. Of course, a picture cannot do that view justice. I am sure you feel the same....the expansive beauty does come through on a 4 x 6!!! or an 12 x 18 for that matter. It is that beautiful there......I would love to see it in autumn!

Yep, I am sure that is Screw Auger Falls. It's beautiful there...great place for a picnic right next to the falls. My kids used to love sitting under the falls as a kid.....the upper falls, that is!
Amazing how they only have a small wooden guard rail around the big falls (in your picture) isn't it?????
Here is a picture of the upper falls that I took in August. I would love to see that area in the autumn!

yes.
Colleen, I took the same picture of the top of Screw Auger!
I sent it as an attachment, because I don't know how to paste it right into this note. Please let me know if the attachment doesn't show up.
The shadows were striking.
I arrived there a bit after mid-day. I just passed another place that I'm sure you know - Windsong Gardens Log Cabin Rentals on Route 26 in Upton.
I basically wanted to move into one of those cabins for at least a week...sigh.

Yep, I know Windsong Gardens...I remember when they weren't even there!!!! If you are heading toward Grafton Notch from Windsong, our street is the first one on the left! Wide entrance to the street, but narrow street.....you couldn't miss it. It is the top of the mountain!
I recognize your picture of the upper falls! Nice spot huh????? That entire area is just beautiful!!! That lake that you see out from Windsong (entrance is further down toward NH) is Lake Umbagog. It is really huge and just wonderful to be on in the summer. Our neighbor goes ice fishing on it in the winter. Drives his big ole pickup truck out onto the ice!!! I think I would rather be on it in the summer. I think I still have pictures in a collage of Umbagog in my gallery....I will check!
Glad you had such a nice time. You have wonderful autumn photos of that area, please keep posting them!!!
