Maybe I have this in the correct forum, now...

Good morning all,

New to both Digital photography and Adobe.

I have just installed Elements 5 on my PC and have a question (the first of many, I'm sure) about camera settings for use with PSE5.

My Pentax K100D has 2 color settings. One is sRGB and the other is Adobe RGB. Since I'm going to be using Elements 5 for all of my processing, should I set my camera to the Adobe color setting? This is probably a no brainer and dumb question but....... I am a neophyte and completely new to all of this.

Thanks

Ed

Ed.....

You've started with a difficult question really because it depends on what your going to do with the pictures you take.

Essentially the difference between the two is the range of colours that will be present in the image. Same number of colours but just spread around differently.

sRGB is a good default to start with. Programs that you will use to view your images and monitors or printers you use can usually make a good job of these without too much bother.

If you need more information then the questions you're raising are part of the Colour Management process and you'll need to read up further on this - but don't rush into it as it's a daunting subject at first.

Plug and play first - try both settings and see what happens
