I am using a PC with PSE 4.0 and found a PSE tutorial (not sure where)that explained how to make a border around a photo. I followed the instructions, to a T, and I could not make it happen. I tried and tried - this is what I did.

Open a picture on a background piece of paper
Make the picture layer active and then click, new layer
Once the new layer is selected, add foreground color of white to the new active layer with the paint bucket
While the white layer is active, click Image>Transform>Perspective, lock the aspect ratios and increase the width and height.... click check mark when satisfied.
Nothing happens. (Hmmmmm)

Any suggestions? I really want white borders around my photos!
Thanks!!!

Shannon,
try this.
Open you photo.
Then go Image - Resize - Canvas Size. Make sure the centre white square is selected and that relative is ticked. Enter the size you want, then click OK.
Now in the view area your photo should have a transparent surround. Using the magic wand tool, select the transparent area. Open a new layer and fill with your choice of colour.
Hope this helps.

Hi Shannon, there a a few ways to get a white border. This is one way.Open your image in the editor, duplicate image so you are not working on the original>select>all>edit>stroke(outline selection)When the stroke adj. box opens change width to 10 pixels(add more or less pixels, depending on the size you want your border)>color>white>inside.click ok.

Hi Shannon

I just tried what you said the tutorial tried to do. I couldn't get it to work either.

A variation on that tut would be (although I prefer the other suggestions).

Open an image (all work done on a copy not the original)
Make a new white layer (same size)
copy the background layer (original photo) and drag it above the white layer.
Use the transform tool (as per your tut) on the top layer and drag it in a bit.
This will allow the white layer to show around the edges.

I am guessing that this is what the tutorial was trying to do. I just hate resizing your photo that way, but as long as you have the original in a safe place.... :)

Thank you so much for the posts and for actually trying out the tutorial and confirming that it didn't work. I thought it was just me!

I went home last night and tried all of the suggestions and viola! white borders. I am thrilled.

Thanks again!
