View Full Version : Concentric shape outlines

I have such difficulty when attempting to create outlines of certain shapes (like circle or ellipse) which are concentric to one another but of either decreasing or increasing size. Even now - as I'm trying to create an oval frame, I'm struggling to draw a second ellipse (from the shapes tools) that looks exactly the same as my previous ellipse but of a reduced size and can never get it *exactly* right. Is there some trick one can use to get it right first time, folks?

How about duplicating the layer (Ctrl+J) and then using the grid to make it a bit smaller :)

Sonia, if you have the selection for the first oval/circle, do a narrow stroke (1 px) on a new layer. Reselect if you lose the selection, and go to the select menu. select>modify>contract Then another narrow stroke to define it.

Contract seems to work better than expand.

Then fill the fat circle/ellipse with whatever you like.

Karen and Jo,

Tks! you've given me ideas and further practice is making me more proficient at it. Nothing like sharing your worries - it usually turns out they're not so bad after all ;)
