View Full Version : Who said, "Scrapbook designs? Not ME!"?

I was reminiscing about posts a few months ago when some of "us" thought scrapbooking was "not for ME!" However, I think that several have discovered the same thing I did 2 yrs. ago - Scrapbooking in this century is as different from your parent's scrapbooking as night & day.
One of the first things I remember when viewing the galleries shortly after joining the forum was the "scrapbook pages" / "memory pages" that were called a montage, collage or just plain design.
Whatever we call it, I love preserving memories for family & friends.
I was wondering how many of you have done a 180 in the art of preserving memories (aka designing scrapbook pages).

Nita,
Me too. Are they going to make the scrapbooking contest a yearly thing? If so I can't wait!!!:) (Still don't feel confident enough to join the scrapbooking exchange, designing my own papers & embellishments though...)

Um...yeah.
I'm at about a 120 degree turn at the moment, about to complete a 180!
I had thought "scrapbooking" was ...well...not cool:o
I have loved, however, making little collages for friends over the past year; and l just discovered digi scrapping, and find that it's what I sort of have been doing, and been loving!!
Ah, well.
We can't all be cool. Just the Scrappers can be!:D

Tracy: I've had the same experience. I thought scrapbooking was not for me and I had been doing a little of it all along and called it Montage or Composite when I did something for a card or friend. I still think a good picture can stand on its own but a little cropping and a simple frame are all that's needed. The more I read this forum and see all the beautiful pictures the more I want to experiment.

I first thought that there was no way I could do a scrapbook kit. It looked like alot of hard work. But I have done two now, not great ones but I did it. I love doing montages/collages and the scrapbooking is pretty much the same. So, I guess I have done a 360 on how I feel about scrapbooking. Didn't want anything to do with it but it has helped me think more creatively.

Guess that I just have to be the odd one out :o ... I like making the kits but I don't like putting scrapbook pages together :D :D

180 about 3 times around now! :D When I stopped trying to conform to someone else's idea of scrapbooking it started to "work" for me.

I see we all understand!
I'm neither confident nor skilled enough to attempt a kit - but I love putting things together - both for myself to practice, and for friends.
Wendy - you are not the odd one out, I think. Rather, you've surpassed me/us - and now you kindly produce actions and tutuorials to help us continue our journey.:p

Nancy, that's the beauty of Memory Making - we're all unique & our friends & families are as well. We don't have to conform to someone else's idea of memory making (scrapbooking).
I love beautiful photography that makes a statement on its own. However, sometimes I've seen simple snapshots done by amateurs that evoke such a strong emotion that I just have to add my thoughts (journaling). We've seen on some of the scrapbook forums & galleries how a particular photo and/or kit can be incorporated into hundreds of unique designs because everyone visualizes it with their personal photograph in a different layout (whether it be a 12x12 page or a greeting card).
I'm at the bottom of the rung with design & most of my designs are used with personalized greeting cards, but I enjoy preserving memories as a scrapbook page & I hope someday I will become good at it because I want to leave memories that will last long after I am gone.

The problem I'm having now is I'm making so many wonderful pages for my kids that they are now saying "she has more" or "her's are nicer". Guess I'm just gonna have to do identical pages for each of them then the problem will be solved. :D
Bigger problem is I want to print them for me but they keep asking for their own copy too. Double printing is getting expensive! I've told them if they want a copy it will be 8x8 or they can pay for the larger size.

You might just have to burn CD's or DVD's for them & let them play as screensavers. Then they can have them printed out later to save Mommy some dough! :D Your LO's are always beautiful Nancy. Wish you were my Mommy so you could turn all my photos into beautiful memories!!
