Nancy...............just lovely. I'm shedding a few tears myself just looking at it. Aren't children such a joy.......I feel so sorry for those people that haven't any children. I can't imagine life without mine and my grandchildren.

This may seem like a stupid question to you........but what exactly is a homecoming dance?

Thank you so much everyone. She did look beautiful didn't she. Dad had a really hard time with this week because it was her first "date" even though they are just good friends and didn't really go as a couple. (Yeah - those are the ones who usually end up together in the end :D )

Wendy and Robyn,
Well - it's sort of like high school's version of your royal family. The kids in school cast votes for a king, queen and their court. The whole week is filled with festivities like a bonfire, fun things all week at school, the traditional "big homecoming football game" and the week is capped off with the formal dance and crowning of the king, queen, and the court. Each grade gets two "maidens" and "gents" to act as the court to the Senior class King and Queen. They dance a traditional waltz and then have a dance for the whole school to join in.

The term "Homecoming" is used to indicate that the football game for that day is to celebrate the grads from that high school and to invite them back to that game. The event is an opportunity for the present students to have a nice dance. In my day that was not as formal as it is now but it has become a opportunity for the kids to get dressed formally and have a nice place to go with dates, etc. There are usually at least two other formal dances. We had a Junior Prom and a Senior Ball when I was in High School.

Next week is the homecoming dance for Woodinville and it will be the first time that our Norwegian exchange student will go to a formal dance. He has a date with a very nice girl and he is scheduled to go with a group of friends in a big stretch limousine. They will go to a very nice restaurant together and then to the dance. He has rented a tux for the event and the girls go in very nice gowns. So it is really an opportunity to have a fun time in a dinner/dance situation.

Last night when we got back form our conference banquet the kids were here, including Kristina, who is the other Norwegian exchange student. We just love her and she and Øystein have become good friends. He will not date her. They meet each other every day for lunch at school and often they meet in the center of town and at the mall but he says he wants to keep her as a friend and so they will go to the dance with other dates. You are right, though, these are the days where some kids meet their long time sweethearts and it does this old dad a lot of heartwarming to see them together.
Here is a picture of Kristina I sent to her parents. She is on the girls soccer team. (Now you know why I can't wait to take all their pictures!):) :) and:)

Oh Nancy... that is so touching & your daughter is beautiful.

I feel sorry for people who have parents who aren't as talented as you. Imagine the boring photos or none at all.
