View Full Version : Why two year olds shouldn't have scissors!

My almost 2 1/2 year old daughter got a hold of scissors (we think - might have been daddy's beard trimmer....she hid whatever she used) and proceeded to cut her own hair. She had never had more than a bang trim before - so momma is a little devestated to see all of those beautiful blonde locks gone. :( But of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to add a page to her baby book. :D

Jane that is too funny! Thanks for sharing it.

Did you save a lock of hair to place in a vellum envelope attached to the page?

 Jane, I know how you feel with that one. My son did the same thing the day before he was getting pictures taken. Needless to say I cancelled that appointment and ran to the store for film (didn't have a digital back then). I have to admit, his was much easier to fix being a boy, so I guess i really don't know totally how you feel.

Great page anyway.

Oh Jane, Oh my.
What do you say other than.......
KIDS WILL BE KIDS!
Love how you scrapped this.

Well she joins a long list of kiddos that have been there.
OH MY SHE REALLY DID A NUMBER ON THAT HAIR!

Thanks for sharing the moment.
Bless her little heart.

Thanks for your support!

Yes - she very neatly piled up most of the hair she cut off... so it will be saved.

Right now her hair is shorter than her baby brothers! If only she liked to wear hats....

She did that much damage in the time it took me to change her brother's diaper. She is quick - and he was making so much noise I didn't hear a thing and she was only about a dozen feet away around the corner.

Oh, Jane, I always feared that. Of course I guess it could be worse, I have a friend who cut HIS MOM's hair when he was little- they were both taking a nap, and he woke up and... Great way to capture the moment!

Oh my......isn't it something how we women can so identify with the emotions attached to that haircut.
I'm so glad you had the scrappers capability to put this moment in time into a memory. Someday you'll all laugh yourself to tears.:D

My son was 4 and cut his and his best friends hair with the dog clippers.....I was the babysitter:mad::rolleyes:

Jane.....great layout and what a scrappy opportunity..........but I feel for you so much, that beautiful hair all gone! My granddaughter Sally has beautiful blonde curls and that is just the sort of thing that she would do given the opportunity.

Jane,

I remember my oldest daughter doing that to herself and how devastated I was.....and then daughter number 3 did it about 15 yrs later! Funnily enough they both had very tight blond curls so it didn't look too bad...we just had to wait for the front bit too grow back in. Wish I'd had the presence of mind to take photos though.

Lovely pictures to remember and laugh about (when her daughter does it in the future:) )

Great way to make the :o best:o of the situation. I think we all have those stories. When my 22yr. old was in preschool she cut here friends hair (I was the babysitter too!). BTW-friend never came back to OUR house.
Last year (after a fresh trim from the barber) my 12 year old (yes 12) shaved his head. He is chubby and it was not very becoming. Still don't know what he was thinking:rolleyes:

Ah yes, been there myself!! My daughter is 15 now and still cuts her own hair and does a pretty good job of it!! When she cut a hunk out of her bangs I think she was about 4 and it took me weeks to discover since she was an expert with barettes, etc. I could NEVER do her hair to her satisfaction from the time she was 2 years old!! When the neighbour kid she babysat did the same darn thing, my daughter told her not to worry and showed her how to disguise the horrible missing hunk!

Now my son. (13)...........I WISH he would cut his hair!! Up until this last year it's always been short and he would complain when I buzzed it off. It's getting longer and longer and he refuses to get it cut. SIGH.

For some reason, my girls never did that....except when they got a bit older and had knots in the back, underneath...from not brushing enough.

That scrapbook page is a wonderful memory!!! I love the "after" picture!!!! Her face is so expressive!!! That picture to me says it all....almost like "I'm the baby, gotta love me!!!!" remember that from that show Dinosaurs????

That is too funny. My daughter did it too but fortunately only got one chunk out before I caught her. A switch in the part fixed it temporarily.

Great shot and I agree about having the lock of hair to attach to it in a nice frame... That's a memory you can share on her wedding day, the say her first turns 2, for a great grand child...

I was about 8 and had been watching my dad shave. I decided I wanted to try and shaved off half an eyebrow. I remember thinking he just rubbed his face. He must be doing it because it feels good. I don't remember thinking about removing hair, just wanting to know what it feels like to have a razor on your face.

Hi,
nice scrappy, nice tales from other members.
Maybe she had been watching the box (TV) and just decide to be a little more fashion conscious. After all girls will be girls.

Great layout! I never cut my own hair, but I did cut my brother's hair - just a chunck. He had a cow-lick for ages, though! Now, I'm cutting my boys' hair - Trent especially has curly hair and when it gets long, we have to trim it up.

Oh Brice, your post really brought back memories!! The same daughter who cut her hair also shaved off her eyebrows!! It was the funniest thing. I'd forgotten all about that. You could never leave her alone for more than a couple minutes. :D I have plenty of stories to embarass her with later.

Ah, but do you have the photos to go with them? It made me think that it would have been a good idea to keep a point and shoot handy for just such moments.....by the time you've run for your dSLR and made sure the right lens is on etc etc the moment is lost.

Oh boy, does your experience bring back memories. My daughter decided since she had just had her hair cut to match mommie's that her little brother (who had not had one haircut by age 1) needed to match us. So, with blunt scissors she proceeded to cut patches out of his curls. Thank goodness I lived next door to a barber. It's funny now but it wasn't then!
Your page is precious.

No, no pictures Bayla. Back then I had a crappy film camera and it didn't do close ups well. Digital wasn't even a thought way back 13 years ago!
I look at my pictures of the kids when they were little and they look so horrible compared to what I could do now! Oh well, can't turn back the clock.
