Here's my attempt at making a page with a photo converted to B&W per Scott's tutorial. My daughter is going to be a senior and a friend took some photos with her Canon Digital Rebel.

My attempt was to make a montage similar to the professional photographers. Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

Beautiful job Lulu. My only thought would be that I found the faded green on the left side a bit distracting. I would try to fade it to grey scale like on the other side. Just a suggestion but give it a try and see what you thing. I thought about fading to white, but I think that would be to stark.

Lulu,

It is great !! ... congratulations on doing it.

I too have the same thought as Pauline about the green ... and I wondered it if would look better fading to black or dark gray.

I should now image that lots of people are going to be asking you to do one for them :)

Here's the photo updated with gray. I guess it takes a "new eye" to see what it needs. Thanks again!

Lulu, like that one better but, what I had in mind was fading the two colour pictures out into the "original" photo that you have in grey scale. Does it go right over to the left side of your page??

I'm not sure how you made the image but what I thought was, first turn the entire image into grey scale. Then put your colour pictures on and "fade" them to the left hand side rather than paint a grey on. Does that make sense the way I'm explaining it?? That way they would blend in better.

hi Lulu,

Yes I think that Pauline's idea of fading to the original image is a good one ... if that is not possible then try changing the shade of the grey. Maybe to a lightly lighter shade.

You are doing well with it :)

"fading to the original image". Thank you Wendy. It was late last night, why couldn't I think of that simple way of putting it? That's EXACTLY what I meant in that paraghraph I wrote.

Pauline,

When it gets late we know exactly what we want to say ... but the head doesn't supply the right words :) :) (Well mine sure doesn't :) :) )

Oh I see what you mean...
No, my photo doesn't go all the way to the left edge....so I guess I'll just have to lighten the gray gradient that I added. I really appreciate you gals sticking with me while I work on this!

I really don't know much of what I'm doing so this may not be such a good idea, but what about adding a 4th pic down on the right side, maybe with a slight opaque? I am thinking it might balance it more. I prefer the latter ones you did with the gray as I think it softens it.

Any thoughts on my idea? Many of you are professionals and I am totally untrained.
