I barely get started & I'm crying out for help. I put my first image on to my background . Then I bring another pic into the photo bin ,when I try to copy & then paste this second photo onto my background , it covers up the first one . Is this o.k ?
I did not know so cancelled everything & started with a clean slate again & pasted my first pic on to my White Background. Then I tried to close that one out of the photo bin but do not know how to do this. How please ?
I am doing it this way because a while back I had so much trouble trying to do Diana's tut-Hayden's First Party- & she kindly suggested doing 1 photo at a time might be less muddly for me.
Can someone please get me past first base. :)
Thanks. Storm

Hi- I'm not sure what kind of collage you're trying to do- as long as you're trying to get an effect where you have a bunch of small pictures on the same canvas, you can move and resize each image as you go. Once you get the first image on your background, paste your second image (as you seem to have done in the first example you gave.) Then use the move tool to move it to another location on your canvas. You can also resize it, so it's not covering the whole page- just remember to hold down the shift key as you're resizing so that you maintain the perspective of your image.
If this is completely not what you're talking about- let us know, and we'll try to help in a different way!

Storm, if all of your images are the same size they are going to cover the one you want to be your background image. You can either resize the images individually and then drag them to the background or you can use the free transform under image>transform>free transform on the tool bar. When you drag a photo to the background image it should be making its own layer in the layers pallette. By clicking on the layer of the image you want to work with you can resize it there also either with the free transform and dragging the corner to the size you want or in the tool bar with image>resize image.

I will start again & try to move the second pasted photo.properly.
If I have a photo in the photo bin how do I close it from there ?
Do I have to click on it ,then go to File > Close.??

Storm- Once you've pasted your first photo and then want to close the original image- yes, just select that photo and then close it.
This link on the adobe page seems to have the steps that you're doing written out, so it might be helpful: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/332336.html
Good luck with your project!

Storm, the first one I tried I had all my images the same size as my background, that is why I asked and made the suggestion I did. I used Diane's tut too but misread part of it. I was ready to scream but everyone in the forum is so helpful you will figure it out in no time.
Good luck and I know you'll get it. Don't think of it as you will mess it up. A lot of people here will help you. Plus as a lot have discovered, sometimes a mess up can turn into something great.

In my opinion, this is the easiest way to make a montage/collage. Open PSE, insert your background picture and size it. Open a new layer and insert your picture on that [size it and move it]. Continue doing that until you have all the pictures in. Then I do a layers adjustment to each picture and make any other changes I want. Russ
